Title: Perception Engineer I Location : Fort Worth, TX (hybrid, onsite 3x/wk) Target Start Date : ASAP Type: Contract Pay Rate : $34.75-$45.95/hr Position Summary Our client, a global leader in advanced autonomous and robotic solutions across multiple industries, is seeking a Perception Engineer I to support the development, integration, and validation of perception software for autonomous compaction equipment. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, this role develops practical experience in robotics, computer vision, sensor processing, and autonomous systems while contributing to obstacle detection, terrain understanding, environmental awareness, and autonomous vehicle operation. Key Responsibilities • Support the development, testing, and integration of perception software for autonomous compactor platforms. • Develop perception capabilities including obstacle detection, object classification, terrain analysis, and environmental awareness. • Process and analyze data from cameras, LiDAR, radar, GPS/GNSS, and inertial sensors. • Assist with sensor integration, calibration, configuration, and system validation. • Develop software components, engineering tools, and scripts for data processing, visualization, and automated testing. • Evaluate perception performance using simulation, recorded datasets, laboratory testing, and field validation. • Troubleshoot software, sensor, and system integration issues with guidance from senior engineers. • Participate in unit testing, regression testing, code reviews, technical documentation, and Agile development activities. • Collaborate with perception, GNC, embedded software, systems, and test engineers to support autonomous vehicle development. • Support field testing, customer demonstrations, and deployment activities. Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline. • 0-2 years of experience (professional, internship, research, or academic project) in robotics, computer vision, machine learning, sensor processing, or software engineering. • Experience programming in C++ and/or Python. • Basic knowledge of computer vision, robotics, machine learning, geometric algorithms, and robotic sensing technologies. • Familiarity with Linux development environments and Git version control. • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications • Internship, research, or project experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, computer vision, or machine learning. • Experience with ROS/ROS2, OpenCV, Point Cloud Library (PCL), PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar technologies. • Familiarity with LiDAR, point cloud processing, sensor calibration, coordinate transformations, and embedded or real-time systems. • Exposure to simulation, Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), and field testing. • Interest in autonomous construction equipment, terrain analysis, or off-road robotics.
