Role description
Job title: POS Engineer
Location: Boston Support Center - On site 4 days (hands on in lab), 1 day remote
Duration: 8-12 months+ contract
Must Have(s):
β’ 5 years high volume POS engineering experience
β’ 3 years edge computing in large scale environment
β’ 5 years POS hardware experience
β’ 1 year Oracle Symphony & Oracle Res
β’ We are hiring a hands on senior consultant thelp design and evaluate next generation POS hardware and edge computing architecture for a large Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) environment as part of a team.
β’ The position is an onsite role in our Canton, MA support center. This is not a people manager role and not day-to-day POS support.
β’ The focus is architecture, tradeoffs, and future proofingβespecially extending hardware life, reducing OS risk, and ensuring systems can grow with software (including AI use cases) over the next 5β10 years.
What Youβll D
β’ Evaluate current POS hardware and deployment models
β’ Evaluate edge based architectures that:
β’ Reduce dependency on POS terminal OS EOS
β’ Allow POS logic tmove off the register where appropriate
β’ Support 100% seamless offline operation and high volume store environments
β’ Help define where workloads should run:
β’ POS endpoint vs store edge vs cloud
β’ Assess hardware and OS choices against future growth, including AI driven workloads
β’ Deliver clear architecture recommendations, diagrams, and tradeoff analysis with the team
Required Experience (Must Have)
β’ POS & QSR Experience
β’ Hands on experience with large enterprise POS systems in QSR or high volume retail
β’ Strong understanding of:
β’ Transactions
β’ Payments
β’ Peripherals
β’ Offline / degraded network behavior
β’ Experience designing around existing POS platforms, not replacing them Edge Computing & Architecture
β’ Real experience designing or operating edge computing in distributed environments
β’ Comfortable with store level compute models that work even when the network is down
β’ Experience supporting mixed fleets (legacy hardware + new stores) POS Hardware
β’ Experience with enterprise POS hardware such as:
β’ NCR
β’ Oracle MICROS
β’ HP (or similar vendors)
β’ Understands hardware lifecycle realities (long refresh cycles, mixed environments) OS & Imaging (Hands On)
β’ OS imaging and lifecycle management experience
β’ Windows LTSC in POS environments (including tradeoffs)
β’ Linux for edge or backend workloads (practical use, not ideological) Future Ready & Capacity Planning (Critical)
β’ Understands how emerging technologies (e.g., AI, real time analytics, automation) impact store compute needs
β’ Experience with capacity planning and technology decisions looking 3β5 years out
β’ Able tdesign architectures where software growth does not immediately force hardware upgrades
β’ We are not looking for someone tbuild AI modelsβ
β’ we are looking for someone whunderstands what AI and future software demand from infrastructure.

β’ Headless or API first POS / commerce architectures
β’ Containerized workloads at the edge
