Position: Power BI Administrator & SME Type: Contract Location: Sheffield or Birmingham Industry: Financial Services About the Role A leading Cybersecurity Science & Analytics function is seeking a Power BI Administrator & Subject Matter Expert to take ownership of a large‑scale analytics platform. This role sits within a specialist Data Insight & Visualisation Team, responsible for administering, optimising, and governing the Power BI/Fabric environment while enabling advanced cyber analytics and monthly metrics reporting. You’ll work across platform administration, automation, governance, and developer support — evenly split — ensuring the environment is secure, scalable, and delivering reliable insights. The wider team is a multi‑disciplinary group of cybersecurity scientists, data engineers, and analytics professionals focused on building next‑generation cyber defence capabilities using data, AI/ML, and advanced analytics. Key Responsibilities • Power BI Administration — Full ownership of the Power BI/Fabric service, including optimisation, governance, and environment security. • CI/CD Automation — Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and fabric‑cicd. • REST API Automation — Use Power BI/Fabric REST APIs for automation, monitoring, and governance. • Access & IAM Governance — Manage permissions, workspace access, and security groups. • Capacity & Performance — Monitor and optimise Fabric Capacity usage. • Audit & Troubleshooting — Use Activity Logs and Log Analytics for auditing and issue resolution. • POC Leadership — Lead POCs, define architectural patterns, and drive best‑practice adoption. • Developer Support — Partner with engineers and analysts to deliver robust, scalable solutions. • Continuous Improvement — Stay current with new features, updates, and industry trends. • Team Mentorship — Support junior team members and uplift team capability. The Three Non‑Negotiables Candidates must demonstrate: • Evidence of thought leadership — not just platform maintenance. • Technical understanding of Power BI, networking fundamentals, and IAM. • Hands‑on experience implementing CI/CD for analytics environments. Immediate Priorities (Your First 90 Days) If you joined on Monday, you’d be expected to: • Own the service — establish clear governance and accountability. • Automate monitoring — build reliable, scalable observability. • Propose automated testing approaches — strengthen quality and deployment confidence. Skills & Experience Candidates from diverse technical backgrounds are welcome, provided they bring proven Power BI expertise. • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and passion for learning. • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, STEM, or equivalent experience. • Candidates without a degree considered with strong experience or certifications. • Experience in software development, analytics engineering, or data engineering also valued. • Proficiency in Python, Java, C#, or similar languages. • Interest in Cybersecurity (preferred but not essential). • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, multi‑disciplinary environment. • Aptitude for learning new tools, technologies, and analytical techniques.
