Job Details
Position: Power BI Developer
Location: Open to remote, (preferably Chicago candidates)
Duration: 3-6 months to start, but may be extended
Start Date: TBD
Interview Process/Times: One and done Interviews
What to expect in the Interview:
• Be prepared to answer an open-ended question describing their previous projects in detail, highlighting any efforts relating to report requirement gathering from stakeholders, the data sourcing and preparation process, design decisions in the dashboard, and any advanced functionality that they would consider worth mentioning. In the absence of the actual report itself, the more detail they can provide on how it was created, the better.
• Describe common challenges that they have faced in the past in their experience with building and maintaining Power BI reports.
• Find a free, sample dataset on the internet or prepare one for the sake of demonstration and use it to prepare a simple report in the style of the work that they would typically create. The BI portion doesn't have to be done in advance of the interview - it can be a short exercise that is done live on the call. The prep in this case would be in finding or creating a sample dataset that works for them.
• Being able to see and interact with their output is one of the best predictors I'll have for their skillset. That being said, if I ask the right questions in the interview I should be able to gather a lot of this information just based on how they communicate their experience preparing production reports.
• I should also work to prepare a sample dataset for future use in interviews, that way it's provided by me and helps maintain consistency from candidate to candidate. That being said, I don't think I'm going to have the time to have that prepared by the start of this round of interviews next week.

• For the one and done: Asked if the candidates can do a screen share for a sample work and sample project to show what the report looks like on the backend, show resource planning for construction Power BI (this is something we can talk through with candidates and if they have done this before
