About the Role
Our client is looking for an intermediate-level freelance Power BI developer to create and update BI reports and communicate actionable insights to improve decision making. You should be able to manage data, evaluate results, and display data effectively using visualization tools, DAX queries, charts, and relationships. The role calls for part-time as-needed development support, generally ~10-15 hours per week.Β This is a 90-95% remote role with periodic in-person mandatory meetings in NYC.
βThis role requires extensive understanding of modeling, databases, data warehousing, data integration, and business intelligence technologies. Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills and a strong technical understanding of business trends are required.
Roles and Responsibilities
β’ Formulate automated reports and dashboards using Power BI and other reporting tools
β’ Understand business requirements to set functional specifications for reporting applications
β’ Exhibit a foundational understanding of database concepts such relational database architecture, multidimensional database design, and more
β’ Design data models that transform raw data into insights by understanding business requirements in the context of BI
β’ Develop technical specifications from business needs and choose a deadline for work completion
β’ Make charts and data documentation that include descriptions of the techniques, parameters, models, and relationships
β’ Developing Power BI desktop to create dashboards, KPI scorecards, and visual reports
β’ Establish row-level security on data and comprehend Power BI's application security layer models
β’ Examine, comprehend, and study business needs as they relate to business intelligence
β’ Design and map data models to transform raw data into insightful information
β’ Create dynamic and eye-catching dashboards and reports using Power BI
β’ Make necessary tactical and technical adjustments to enhance current business intelligence systems
β’ Integrate and alter data and connect to data sources for business intelligence

Requirements and Skills
β’ BS in computer science or information systems along with 2-5 years of relevant work experience
β’ Strong communication skills and ability to effectively explain requirements to internal and external teams
β’ Exceptional analytical thinking skills for converting data into illuminating reports
β’ Knowledge of data warehousing, data gateway, and data preparation projects
β’ Ability to articulate, represent, and analyze solutions with the team while documenting, creating, and modeling them
β’ Familiarity with the tools and technologies used by the Microsoft SQL Server BI Stack, including SSRS and TSQL, Power Query, MDX, PowerBI, and DAX
β’ Detailed knowledge and understanding of database management systems, OLAP, and the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) framework
β’ Awareness of BI technologies (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Oracle BI)
β’ Expertise of SQL queries, SSRS, and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
β’ Knowledge of executing DAX queries on the Power BI desktop
β’ Comprehensive understanding of data modeling, administration, and visualization
