One of Insight Global’s higher education clients is seeking seasoned Principal Cloud Engineers to join a rapidly evolving infrastructure team focused on modernization, resiliency, and cost optimization. The university has doubled in size, and while some legacy challenges remain, the current focus is on transforming cloud architecture and elevating service-level expectations. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in ambiguity, possess deep AWS expertise, and can drive enterprise-scale solutions with confidence and clarity. About the Role: This role involves architecting and implementing scalable, secure AWS infrastructure across internal systems, leading modernization efforts, and supporting GenAI initiatives. Responsibilities: • Architect and implement scalable, secure AWS infrastructure across internal systems. • Lead modernization efforts, including migration from ECS to individual stacks of EKS clusters. • Support GenAI initiatives and proof-of-concept pipelines. • Drive cost-savings by evaluating current cloud spend and optimizing resource usage. • Design for high resiliency: targeting 99.99% SLA, zero RTO/RPO, and full active-active state by end of FY26. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliability and performance across platforms. • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge retention amid organizational changes. Qualifications: • Minimum 3–4 years of hands-on AWS experience in enterprise environments. Required Skills: • Strong understanding of EKS, Terraform, CloudFormation, and AWS cost management tools. • Proven success in ambiguous environments and contracting backgrounds welcome. • Ability to demonstrate technical depth, business presence, and problem-solving skills. • Comfortable being evaluated for executive-level communication. • Located in or willing to relocate to Utah within 60 days. Preferred Skills: • AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or other relevant AWS certifications. • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Compensation: $70/hr to $88/hr. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
