Principal Consultant – FinTech Platform Delivery

Job Description We're looking for a Technical Delivery Leader with a strong engineering background who has delivered complex fintech or banking platforms in high-performance consulting or enterprise environments. This is a lead-from-the-front, execution-first role — not PMO, not coordination. You will be expected to operate at pace, drive outcomes, and work closely with engineering teams building production-critical systems. Looking for candidates who have demonstrated sustained success in demanding environments, not those who have left due to performance or pace constraints. End-to-End Delivery Leadership • Own delivery across multiple engineering teams building fintech/banking platforms. • Drive execution across architecture, development, testing, deployment, and production. • Deliver under tight timelines, regulatory constraints, and high stakeholder expectations. Execution Under Pressure • Operate effectively in fast-paced, high-demand environments. • Manage competing priorities, dependencies, and delivery risks. • Drive teams to meet aggressive timelines without compromising quality. Technical Leadership • Deeply understand and challenge. • System architecture. • API strategies. • Event-driven and distributed systems. • Data pipelines and reconciliation flows. • Partner closely with engineering teams — not operate at a distance. Production & Stability Ownership • Own production readiness and system reliability. • Lead incident reviews, root cause analysis, and stability improvements. • Ensure systems meet enterprise standards for performance, resilience, and compliance. Client & Executive Engagement • Act as the primary delivery partner to senior client stakeholders (VP/CXO). • Lead executive reviews, roadmap discussions, and escalation management. • Translate business priorities into clear, actionable delivery plans. Consulting & Program Leadership • Lead delivery within consulting environments. • Navigate ambiguity, shifting scope, and stakeholder pressure. • Maintain delivery velocity while protecting engineering quality. Communication & Documentation (Critical) • Create high-quality client-facing materials: • Architecture overviews • Delivery plans • Risk and mitigation frameworks • Stability and incident reports • Translate complex technical discussions into structured, executive-ready content Engineering Depth & Technical Background (Must-Have) Candidates must come from a strong engineering background and be comfortable operating close to code, architecture, and production systems. We are specifically looking for individuals who have: • Prior hands-on experience as a software engineer (preferably backend). Strong understanding of: • Java / Spring Boot–based systems. • Event-driven architecture (Kafka or similar). • Microservices and distributed systems. • REST APIs and integration patterns. Experience working with: • UNIX / Linux environments. • Cloud platforms (AWS preferred). • CI/CD pipelines and release management. Must be able to: • Read and understand code when needed. • Challenge engineers and architects on design, performance, and scalability. • Engage meaningfully in architecture and production discussions. Required Experience Must-Have • 15+ years in technology delivery. • 8–10+ years leading complex engineering programs. • Strong experience in fintech, banking, or capital markets platforms. • Proven track record of successful delivery in fast-paced, high-performance environments. Consulting Pedigree (Highly Preferred) • Experience at: Accenture, IBM, Big 4, or similar consulting environments. • Demonstrated strong tenure and success, not short stints. Technical Depth Strong understanding of: • Distributed systems and microservices. • APIs and event-driven architecture. • Cloud platforms (AWS preferred). • CI/CD and release management. • Data pipelines, batch processing, and reconciliation. • Monitoring, observability, and incident response. Leadership & Business Skills • Executive-level communication and stakeholder management. • Strong ownership mindset — drives outcomes, not status updates. • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution. • Comfortable operating under pressure and defending delivery decisions. Presentation & Documentation (Non-Negotiable) • Exceptional PowerPoint / Google Slides skills. • Strong technical writing ability. • Proven experience presenting to senior stakeholders. What We Are NOT Looking For • PMO / coordination-only profiles. • Candidates without strong engineering foundations. • Profiles lacking fintech/banking platform experience. • Candidates with multiple short stints in consulting roles without proven success. • Individuals unable to operate in fast-paced, high-performance environments. Business & Leadership Skills • MBA or equivalent business leadership experience strongly preferred. • Executive-level communication and stakeholder management skills. • Comfortable owning escalations and defending technical delivery decisions. • Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution.
