Job Description:
• The Principal Data Engineer is the senior‑most delivery engineer on the HR Analytics team and serves as the in‑region engineering peer to the Information Architect and Principal Data Engineer (India).
• This is a hands‑on technical leadership role responsible for building the most complex, high‑impact HR data products end‑to‑end — from engaging with HR executives to understand business needs, through data ingestion and transformation across Snowflake and Databricks, to delivering certified datasets in Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
• The role sets the engineering benchmark for the team, mentors senior engineers, partners on platform decisions, and represents HR Analytics engineering in enterprise forums.
Key Responsibilities:
• Own end‑to‑end delivery of complex HR Analytics data products
• Engage with HR executives and senior stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions
• Design and implement data pipelines across:
• Snowflake (including Iceberg)
• Databricks (Delta Lake)
• Microsoft Fabric semantic layer
• Deliver certified datasets and visualizations in Power BI
• Define and maintain engineering standards and best practices
• Partner with the Information Architect on platform architecture, governance, and pattern definition
• Act as primary US engineering lead for high‑impact delivery commitments
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to senior and mid-level data engineers
• Drive cross-region collaboration with the India team for seamless delivery
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex engineering challenges
• Represent HR Analytics engineering in enterprise-level discussions
• Mentor and develop senior engineering talent
How the Role Operates:
• Acts as the senior-most US engineering voice for critical initiatives
• Works as a peer partner with:
• Information Architect (architecture decisions)
• Principal Data Engineer (India) (cross‑region delivery)
Engages directly with:
• HR VPs and executives
• Analytics leadership
• Leads by example with hands-on coding, modeling, and data product delivery
• Drives engineering excellence through practical implementation
• Team Structure & Working Model
• Global HR Analytics team across Country & India
Structure:
• Information Architect – Architecture ownership
• Principal Data Engineers – Engineering leadership & delivery
• Senior / Data / Associate Engineers – Execution
Delivery flow:
• Business need → Design → Ingestion → Transformation → Semantic layer → Power BI
• Operates in a DevOps model:
• Engineers own production data products
• On‑call rotation shared across team
Required Qualifications
• 10+ years of experience in Data Engineering / Data Platform Engineering
• Experience in Principal / Lead engineering role on enterprise data platforms
• Strong hands-on expertise in:
• Databricks (Delta Lake)
• Snowflake (including Iceberg)
• Microsoft Fabric
• Proficiency in:
• PySpark
• Spark SQL
• Python
• Experience building end-to-end data pipelines and data products
Strong knowledge of:
• Data modeling
• Lakehouse architecture
• Data transformation frameworks
• Experience working with enterprise data systems and large-scale platforms
• Ability to engage with senior business stakeholders and translate technical solutions
• Proven experience mentoring and leading senior engineers
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in HR Analytics domain (Workforce, Talent, Compensation, etc.)
• Exposure to Workday, ServiceNow, or similar HR systems
• Experience with streaming technologies
• Familiarity with enterprise data platforms and large-scale analytics environments
• Experience supporting AI/ML or advanced analytics workloads
• Exposure to Power BI semantic models and reporting
