Job Title: Project Controls Specialist
The Project Controls Specialist is a part of the Project Controls & Management Information Systems (MIS) team. They monitor the project process from start to finish and support operations by providing training, information, and insights to ensure Sinacolaβs continued success in a highly competitive market. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in project accounting, project controls, project management, or estimating in a Heavy Civil related field.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Project Setup:
β’ Consolidate budgets with estimating and operations.
β’ Set up projects and budgets in management and accounting systems.
β’ Code billing setups and assist with coding subcontracts and expenses.
β’ Construction Support:
β’ Monitor daily project data.
β’ Assist in the monthly billing & reconciliation process.
β’ Support & review project forecasts.
β’ Work with operations to update production quantities daily with field.
β’ Train teams on internal field systems and project controls.
β’ Project Closeout:
β’ Reconcile and collaborate closing out projects with field and office teams.
β’ Track project completion schedules and retention balances.
β’ Division Performance:
β’ Provide timely and accurate research, analysis and reporting on the financial performance of each division as assigned.
β’ Work with division management teams to ensure the processes and information required to perform their roles effectively are in place and adequately supported.
β’ Ensure existing systems and processes are properly aligned for efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness within each division.
β’ Other Responsibilities:
β’ Ensure efficiency and accuracy of project control systems.
β’ Develop/maintain/support SOPs and manuals.
β’ Create and clear exception reports for optimal data QA/QC.
Qualifications
β’ Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Accounting, or related field.
β’ 5+ years in Project Controls, Estimating, or Project Management in Heavy Civil Construction.
β’ Experience with scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) and accounting software (e.g., Spectrum, Vista, Sage) a plus.
β’ Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
β’ Strong expertise building, presenting, and managing information utilizing Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft 365 tools.
β’ Strong knowledge of construction contracts, change orders, and claims processes.
β’ Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and cost accounting principles.
β’ Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and provide actionable recommendations.
β’ Effective leadership, communication, and team collaboration skills.
β’ Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a challenging environment.
β’ Certifications such as CCIFP, PMP, CCM, or CMA are a plus.
β’ Experience with large infrastructure projects (e.g., roads, bridges, dams, or transit systems).
β’ Strong organizational, customer service, and communication skills.
β’ Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
β’ Experience with HeavyBid, process improvement, and process documentation, preferred.
β’ Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).
β’ Bilingual in English and Spanish, a plus.
