Role description
Job Overview: PENNEP is seeking an experienced Epic Operational Database Administrator to join our client’s team and manage, maintain, and optimize Epic databases across both production and non-production environments. The right candidate will have hands-on experience with Epic Cache/IRIS administration, performance tuning, automation, and disaster recovery, along with strong collaboration skills to work across infrastructure, application, and DevOps teams. This role requires active Epic ODBA certification and direct experience supporting Epic databases in a production healthcare environment. Roles & Responsibilities: Administering and maintaining Epic operational databases to ensure high performance, reliability, and availability. Performing performance tuning, capacity planning, and disaster recovery for Epic Cache/IRIS environments. Managing Epic upgrades, patches, and ongoing maintenance activities. Automating routine administrative tasks using scripting and Epic tools. Developing and maintaining scripts for database backups, restores, and monitoring. Tracking database performance with Epic tools such as Kuiper and System Pulse to ensure system stability. Implementing and testing disaster recovery strategies to support business continuity. Creating and maintaining environments for production, disaster recovery, reporting, training, and non-production. Participating in Epic Cache/IRIS upgrades and maintaining configuration documentation. Troubleshooting and resolving database performance or system issues in collaboration with Epic technical services. Driving process improvements and implementing automation using tools such as Ansible. Supporting cloud integration and high-availability environments in Azure or AWS. Required Skills and Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Epic Operational Database Administrator. Expertise in Epic Cache and IRIS administration, performance tuning, and backup/recovery management. Strong understanding of Epic architecture, replication, and environment management. Proficiency in Unix/Linux administration, troubleshooting, and system configuration. Experience with automation tools (Ansible, scripting) and Epic monitoring utilities. Familiarity with cloud environments (Azure, AWS) and hybrid infrastructures. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a remote setting. Certifications: Epic Operational Database Administrator (ODBA) Certification Cloud certifications such as Microsoft Azure or AWS are a plus Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
