Role description
Position: Remote - Temp - Data Engineer (AWS EMR)
Location: 100% Remote – U.S. only (working EST)
Length: 3-5 Month Contract (Likely extension)
Pay Rate: $50-$55/ hour w2 (Benefits eligible after 60 days)
Work Auth: (TN, EAD-GC, GC, or US Cit.) - (Must be eligible to work on a W2 without requiring sponsorship now or in the future)

About The Role
A fast-growing healthcare technology organization is seeking a versatile Data Engineer to support a high-impact initiative led by a specialized engineering consulting firm. This role sits within the Data Platform team and involves building production-grade pipelines, supporting actuarial workflows, triaging platform issues, and handling ad hoc engineering requests. The ideal candidate is a technical generalist who thrives in dynamic environments and can shift between structured projects and reactive support.
Responsibilities
• Build and maintain ingestion and transformation pipelines using Python, SQL, and orchestration tools
• Implement schema enforcement, data quality checks, and operational monitoring
• Support actuarial data needs for analysis and modeling
• Participate in L1/L2 triage of platform issues (job failures, data anomalies, service reliability)
• Address ad hoc engineering tickets (enhancements, bug fixes, tactical data requests)
• Collaborate with platform engineers, analytics teams, and business stakeholders
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, test coverage, and documentation practices
Qualifications
• 3+ years of experience in data engineering or related fields
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL
• Hands-on experience with Airflow, dbt, AWS EMR, Athena, Parquet/Hudi
• Experience with data modeling and working with structured datasets
• Familiarity with monitoring and troubleshooting data pipelines
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Bonus: Experience supporting actuarial, BI, or analytics teams
• Bonus: Healthcare data experience (claims, clinical, etc.)
