Position summary
The Report Developer (Data Reporting Analyst/Developer) is an Information Technology Systems specialist responsible for analyzing data and reporting across multiple business units and developing robust reporting solutions. This role designs, develops, and maintains reports, dashboards, and visualizations using data analytics platforms, reporting tools, and visualization techniques. The position partners closely with business leaders, engineers, analysts, and subject matter experts to understand data and reporting needs, modernize legacy reporting, and enhance deployment methodologies. The successful candidate will focus on creating efficient, value-added data visualizations and reports that enable the organization to derive actionable business insights and bridge the gap between business processes and business intelligence.
Duties and responsibilities
• Work with business stakeholders, business analysts, and engineers to understand data and reporting problems and opportunities, and develop appropriate reporting solutions.
• Gather business requirements and translate them into data requirements and detailed report specifications, including process definitions and required changes.
• Design reporting solutions such as reports, dashboards, scorecards, and tabular outputs based on business needs.
• Develop and maintain reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
• Utilize Microsoft Visual Studio to create, enhance, and deploy SSRS reports.
• Utilize Report Builder to create and deploy SSRS reports where appropriate.
• Write, optimize, and maintain SQL queries to support complex reporting requirements.
• Analyze report requests to confirm alignment with actual business needs and avoid unnecessary or assumed requirements.
• Identify redundant or unnecessary data elements in requested reports and recommend streamlining and optimizations.
• Validate and reconcile data across multiple sources to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Debug and resolve errors in reports, queries, and related data processes.
• Catalog and document existing and new reporting assets, including logic, data sources, and definitions.
• Perform complex data mining and analysis independently, using appropriate analytical methods and tools.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and close service requests related to data, reporting, and analytics issues.
• Provide feedback and recommendations to management regarding process improvements and key performance metrics.
• Participate in projects and QA testing activities related to reporting and analytics solutions.
• Assist in the implementation, monitoring, and execution of project performance criteria as required.
Knowledge and skills requirements
• Excellent experience conducting structured, result-oriented business data analysis.
• Intermediate or better knowledge of data modeling concepts and their application to reporting solutions.
• Expert, hands-on experience with SQL (T-SQL) on Microsoft SQL Server at an advanced development level is critical for this position.
• Excellent, hands-on experience with Microsoft Reporting Services (SSRS) and Report Builder is required.
• Strong, hands-on experience working with Microsoft Visual Studio to develop and maintain data and reporting solutions.
• Preferred: Prior experience in a technical or functional role involving data analytics and report writing for a mortgage or financial institution.
• Strong understanding of business needs, with the ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence.
