Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Job Summary
Evaluates, designs, and develops enterprise business intelligence reports, dashboards, and solutions. Works closely across multiple departments and IT teams to ensure dashboards, reports, data, and metrics provide reliable and clear information that accurately assists with planning, measuring, trending and enhances operational performance. Research technology best practices, implement frameworks, and align BI directions with strategic business initiatives. Analyzes metric data sources, monitors data quality, defines logical inter-dependencies, and builds comprehensive business process dashboards or reports.
Essential Functions
1. Evaluates customers' needs and abilities to provide appropriate solutions.
1. Acquires data from primary or secondary data sources using standard SQL.
1. Creates complex, visually appealing, and interactive dashboards/scorecards/reports to support business processes such as compliance and regulatory needs etc., including related trends, and projections.
1. Determines data quality and assists in the analysis of data consistency derived from transaction and business intelligence systems.
1. Works with DBAs to design data ETL extractions and manipulations to support production and ad-hoc analyses and reports.
1. Provides guidance on industry best practices and helps select strategic data platforms, tools, and processes.
1. Recommends standards, policies, and procedures for the form, structure, and attributes of the BI tools and systems.
1. Provides support and training to business teams as necessary. Assists with unit testing, systems integration testing and user acceptance testing.
1. Supports the company's commitment to protect the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data.
1. Filters and "cleans” data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct sources of data error.
1. Works with management to prioritize business and information needs.
1. Adheres to current data visualization standards for dashboard and report design.
1. Follows established change control processes, as necessary.
1. Leverages existing data and reports to minimize unnecessary data and report creation.
1. Ensures proper security measures are applied as necessary to data repositories and reports.
1. Analyzes and documents business processes.
1. Performs other related duties as assigned.
To be considered for this position, you should have: [Skills, Education, or Experience]
• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field and two years of progressively responsible experience in a directly related area such as Business Intelligence systems and advanced business reporting tools.
• Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
Knowledge of:
• Power BI
• Power Query and DAX
• Tableau software
• Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) tools
• Data visualization design principles
• Data cleaning methodologies
• Data standard best practices
• Software analysis, design, development, and implementation techniques
• Current industry trends and best practices
• Use of technology for business operations
• A wide variety of analytical processes (data privacy, governance, measurement, information security, etc.)
Ability to:
• Work in a self-directed manner
• Prioritize work processes and projects
• Analyse business processes
• Identify data trends and patterns
• Conduct research; analyse findings; prepare and present recommendations to management
• Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with city staff
• Continually learn and demonstrate new skills via hands-on training, classroom training, and self-study
• Translate broader business initiatives into clear team objectives and concrete individual goals, aligning appropriately with other groups for efficient, coordinated action
