Role: Business Data Analyst Job Type: Contract (4 Months) Work Type: Hybrid (2 3 days onsite per week) Location: Richmond, VA (Local candidates preferred) Interview Process: Virtual interviews followed by an in-person interview About The Role We are seeking an experienced System Review Business Analyst to support a data analytics and visualization initiative focused on assessing existing data sources and data source systems. The role involves identifying risks to data validity and reliability and developing actionable recommendations to improve data quality and trustworthiness across the organization. The analyst will collaborate with multiple internal divisions and stakeholders to evaluate data systems, processes, and repositories that support operational and reporting needs. Key Responsibilities • Review and assess existing data sources and source systems to identify threats to data validity and reliability • Conduct system and data source reviews, including analysis of structured and unstructured data • Review training materials, system documentation, and prior assessment reports • Conduct stakeholder and subject matter expert interviews and facilitate working sessions • Shadow system users to understand real-world data usage and workflows • Perform source system table analysis and synthesize findings • Prioritize identified risks and develop actionable recommendations to mitigate them • Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership • Support onboarding with regular check-ins as required • Note: Data security threats are out of scope for this role Required Qualifications • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Master s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Information Technology • 5+ years of Business Analyst experience supporting IT software or application projects • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and project management skills • Ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences Required Skills • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel, including spreadsheets and Power Query (5+ years) • Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts (5+ years) • Proven ability to assess data validity and reliability (5+ years) • Experience conducting data source and system reviews (5+ years) • Ability to analyze structured and unstructured data (5+ years) • Experience evaluating business processes and system procedures (5+ years) • Strong relationship-building and facilitation skills • Interviewing and stakeholder engagement experience • Ability to translate technical issues into plain language • Strong self-management and project management skills Preferred / Desired Skills • Experience conducting threat or risk assessments • Experience working in state government or large public-sector organizations • Familiarity with health, behavioral health, or human services data systems • Experience validating data used for reporting, performance metrics, or compliance • Experience supporting system modernization or data improvement initiatives • Experience presenting findings to leadership or executive audiences
