Role description
Job Title: RPG Developer – Legacy System Migration Contract Length: 3 months (with potential extension) Location: Remote (Eastern or Central Time Zone preferred) Compensation: β€’ W-2: $50 – $55 per hour β€’ Independent Contractor (IC): $60 – $65 per hour Overview Robert Half is seeking an experienced RPG Developer to support a short-term system migration initiative. This role will focus on analyzing, maintaining, and decoupling legacy RPG-based programs running on an IBM i (AS/400) system, while supporting efforts to migrate data into a modern SQL-based data warehouse. The project is part of a broader transition to a cloud-based policy administration system with API integrations. This is a remote position with preference for candidates located in the Eastern or Central time zones. The initial engagement is estimated at three months or longer, with additional time allotted if the candidate can provide extended support for the migration effort. Key Responsibilities β€’ Analyze, maintain, and enhance RPG programs running on IBM i (AS/400) systems. β€’ Assist in decoupling legacy RPG programs and preparing data for migration. β€’ Work closely with the internal IT team to document, organize, and cross-reference code. β€’ Support the migration of data into a SQL-based data warehouse. β€’ Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to ensure successful integration into a new cloud-based policy administration system. β€’ Provide technical expertise in both fixed-format and free-format RPG, as well as DB2 queries. β€’ Identify gaps in system documentation and create supporting technical references. Required Skills & Experience β€’ Strong hands-on experience with RPG development (fixed-format and free-format). β€’ Background with IBM i (AS/400 / iSeries) environments. β€’ Experience with DB2 queries and data extraction. β€’ Knowledge of modern SQL environments and data warehousing concepts. β€’ Ability to work independently in a remote setting with minimal documentation. β€’ Strong problem-solving and forward-thinking mindset, with experience supporting system migrations. Preferred Qualifications β€’ Prior experience migrating legacy RPG-based systems into SQL or cloud platforms. β€’ Understanding of API integrations and cloud-based policy administration systems. β€’ Familiarity with insurance or policy administration applications.
