Location: Denver, CO (100% Onsite)
Duration: 6 12 Months (Long-Term Contract)

Role Summary
As a Scala Developer, you will design, build, and maintain high-performance microservices and APIs in an event-driven architecture. You re adept at Scala and Java, and bring deep expertise in Kafka, Akka Streams, RESTful and GraphQL APIs, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD automation.
Responsibilities
β’ Architect, develop, and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs using Scala and Java (Spring Boot, Akka HTTP, or Play).
β’ Build event-driven microservices with Apache Kafka, leveraging Kafka Streams, Connect, Schema Registry, and Avro/Protobuf serialization.
β’ Ensure resilience in Kafka integration through schema validation, retries, and robust error handling.
β’ Collaborate closely with frontend, platform, and DevOps teams to define API contracts and integrations.
β’ Implement unit and integration testing, and support CI/CD pipelines using Git and modern automation tools.
β’ Monitor production performance, troubleshoot service issues, and implement optimizations.
β’ Maintain technical documentation and adhere to coding standards.
Required Qualifications
β’ Scala & Java (8+): Strong production-level experience, including libraries such as Akka Streams, Play, Cats/Scalaz.
β’ Kafka Expertise: Kafka Streams, Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, topic design, fault-tolerant messaging.
β’ Frameworks: Proficiency with Spring Boot, Akka HTTP, or Play for API and microservice development.
β’ Cloud/Containers: Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native deployments.
β’ API Security: Knowledge of OAuth2, JWT, or similar security patterns.
β’ Testing/CI: Proven experience in automated testing and CI/CD workflows.
β’ Collaboration: Strong communicator who works well across teams in fast-paced environments.
Preferred Skills
β’ Familiarity with API gateways (e.g. Kong, Apigee) or service mesh (e.g. Istio).
β’ Exposure to reactive programming patterns and functional paradigms.
β’ Experience working in enterprise environments with large-scale microservice architectures.
