Scala Developer

A leading global financial reporting company is seeking a Scala Developer to join their high-impact Data Platform team 100% REMOTELY. This role will focus on developing, maintaining, and enhancing scalable data processing systems built in Scala, with strong opportunities to work on cloud integration and distributed architecture through tools like BigQuery and Dataflow. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers and stakeholders to deliver robust data-driven solutions supporting business-critical analytics. What You’ll Do: • Build, update, and optimize data processing pipelines using Scala and related tools. • Automate core data workflows to increase efficiency and reduce manual interventions. • Implement and maintain cloud-based solutions (AWS and/or GCP) and authentication mechanisms. • Collaborate with team members to design scalable, distributed systems and solve technical challenges. • Ensure high code quality through effective testing, including writing unit and integration tests. • Integrate and query business data with SQL and PostgreSQL for analytics and reporting. • Work with JSON serialization/deserialization and apply functional programming concepts. • Provide support for existing platforms and contribute to documentation and reusable technical assets. • Participate in ongoing team learning, staying current with platform and industry best practices. What We’re Looking For: • Demonstrated proficiency with Scala; familiarity with sbt, functional programming, and Circe a plus. • Experience working with Kubernetes • Knowledge of BigQuery and/or Dataflow • Solid understanding of SQL and experience with PostgreSQL. • Exposure to asynchronous/concurrent programming and collaborative Git workflows. • Interest in big data concepts, distributed messaging (e.g., Google Pub/Sub), and containerization. • Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and willingness to learn. • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience. • 0–2 years of hands-on software engineering experience.
