Role description
Akkodis is seeking a Senior Adyen Engineer for a W2 contract position that is remote in Baltimore, Maryland. This is a remote position, but periodic travel to client and partner sites may be required for key program milestones, governance reviews, and workshop facilitation. Rate Range: $85.00/hour to $95.00/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors. Senior Adyen Engineer job responsibilities include: • Provide expert guidance to engineering teams on Checkout API, tokenization, webhooks, dispute management, and multi‑merchant structures while translating platform capabilities into actionable implementation plans and reviewing architecture decisions to identify gaps, anti‑patterns, and risks prior to production. • Advise on the phased migration from a legacy token repository to token vault by supporting re‑tokenization strategy, PAN retrieval options, and PCI scope reduction while assisting with segmentation models such as allow/deny lists, friendly‑user groups, and line‑of‑business rollout planning. • Review Checkout API integrations, webhook processing, and downstream billing impacts while supporting micro‑frontend integration with Drop‑In or custom components, evaluating back‑end payment service abstractions (including token flows, 3DS metadata, fraud signals, and refund/chargeback handling), validating Pay‑By‑Link, IVR, and OTCC/PACC flows, and ensuring alignment across front‑end, back‑end, PSP workflows, and all business channels. • Guide the transition from batch‑close/next‑day settlement to sales‑day payout model while supporting reconciliation process design and reporting adjustments for new fee structures, and validating coexistence‑period reconciliation and mixed‑state routing. • Advise on merchant hierarchy and multi‑brand account structures while guiding sandbox‑to‑production environment promotion and supporting Customer Area configuration including WIAM/SSO integration and RBAC setup. • Act as the technical bridge between the client, system integrators, and by validating API versioning, webhook configurations, and program‑to‑PSP backlog alignment while supporting client escalations, environment troubleshooting, and roadmap discussions. • Identify and document complex integration risks; including 3DS configuration and challenge/step‑up impacts, fraud‑rule migration and coexistence‑period tuning, Canadian payment‑method nuances (Interac, Visa Debit), webhook reliability and idempotency behaviors, and PCI boundary considerations during token‑vault migration while providing proactive guidance to mitigate them. • Assist QA in designing Adyen‑specific test scenarios (including OTCC, tokenization, 3DS, disputes, and Pay‑By‑Link) while advising on sandbox configuration and production‑readiness criteria and supporting mixed‑state regression testing across legacy and new PSP environments. Qualifications: • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong payments/PSP focus. • 3+ years of hands‑on Adyen implementation experience in production environments. • Deep experience with Checkout API, Balance Platform, tokenization, webhooks, and dispute management. • Experience advising large engineering organizations in a consultative capacity. • Background supporting complex, phased PSP migrations or payment infrastructure modernizations. • Experience with multi‑brand or multi‑merchant Adyen environments. • Strong back‑end development background (Java, Python, Node.js, .NET). • Familiarity with event‑driven architecture (Kafka, SQS/SNS). • Strong REST API design and versioning knowledge. • PCI DSS fundamentals: SAQ‑A, secure data handling, scope reduction. • Cloud experience (AWS preferred): API Gateway, Lambda/ECS, SQS, CloudWatch. • Experience with observability tools (Datadog, Splunk, etc.). • Excellent communication skills for both technical and executive audiences. • Comfortable working in multi‑vendor delivery environments. Preferred Qualifications • Experience in telecommunications, utilities, or high‑volume recurring billing environments. • IVR payment capture and call‑center assisted payment flows. • Micro‑frontend and federated component architecture experience. • Experience with Adyen Revenue Protect (fraud rule design & migration). • Formal PCI DSS or payment security training/certification (PCIP, ISA). • Prior experience as a Payment SME or Payment Architect in a large SI program.
