Role description
Senior AWS Cloud Data Engineer - AWS Cloud Transformation, Python, AWS Glue, SQL/ETL Data Modelling. YOU MUST HAVE 5+ YEARS WORKING IN A FINANCIAL SERVICES / BANKING DOMAIN ENVIRONMENT. £700-£800/day INSIDE IR35. 2 DAYS PER WEEK ONSITE LONDON. Role Overview Our Financial Services London based client are looking for an experienced Senior AWS Data Engineer with strong Python & AWS Glue experience to design, build, and optimise modern cloud-based data solutions that support our enterprise applications and business services. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on developing scalable data pipelines, integrating data across multiple systems, and delivering reliable, secure, and high-performing data platforms on AWS. My client will only consider candidates from a solid Financial Services & Banking domain working background. You will play a key role in our AWS Cloud Transformation Programme, working closely with Solution Architects, software engineering teams, and business stakeholders to deliver production-ready data solutions. Alongside technical delivery, you will mentor colleagues, promote engineering best practices, and help establish sustainable data engineering capabilities across the organisation. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and maintain scalable AWS-based data pipelines and integration solutions. • Build robust batch and near real-time ETL/ELT processes to support operational and analytical workloads. • Develop cloud-native data solutions using AWS services that align with enterprise architecture and business requirements. • Design and implement event-driven data processing and data integration patterns. • Develop reusable, efficient, and maintainable Python-based data processing solutions. • Integrate data across front-office, back-office, and third-party systems using modern integration approaches. • Optimise data quality, performance, scalability, and reliability across the data platform. • Work with structured and semi-structured datasets to support reporting, analytics, and downstream applications. • Collaborate with Solution Architects and application teams to design scalable data architectures. • Support production data services through monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and continuous improvement. • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and engineering automation to support efficient delivery. • Mentor engineers and promote data engineering best practices, documentation, and knowledge sharing. AWS Data Engineering Strong hands-on experience designing and delivering cloud-native data solutions using AWS services, including: • AWS Glue • Amazon S3 • AWS Lambda • AWS Step Functions • Amazon Athena • Amazon RDS • Amazon EventBridge • AWS Lake Formation • AWS IAM • Amazon CloudWatch Data Engineering • Extensive experience designing and developing enterprise-scale ETL/ELT pipelines. • Strong SQL skills and experience with data modelling techniques. • Experience integrating data across complex application landscapes. • Knowledge of batch and near real-time data processing. • Experience designing scalable, resilient, and reusable data solutions. • Understanding of data governance, security, and data quality principles. • Experience working with large volumes of structured and semi-structured data.
