About The Role
The Senior Azure Data Engineer will play a key role in migrating on-premises data systems to Microsoft Azure and building modern, cloud-based data solutions. This position requires expertise with Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, and related services to design and implement scalable data pipelines. The role involves collaborating with data engineers, architects, and IT teams to modernize ETL processes, integrate data from diverse sources, and establish cloud-native workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and manage Azure-based data solutions for enterprise applications and services
Plan and execute end-to-end migrations of applications and data to Azure using services such as Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, Function App, and ADLS
Migrate legacy SSIS packages using lift-and-shift strategies and integrate data via ADF, Airflow, and Fabric services
Import and integrate data from multiple sources, including external APIs, using Python, SQL, Databricks, and data pipelines
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth and secure cloud transitions
Monitor Azure resources, implement alerting, and respond to incidents
Maintain compliance with security policies and best practices
Document solution designs, workflows, and operational procedures
Qualifications
12+ years in IT data and cloud engineering
7+ years with Microsoft Azure deployments, administration, and migrations
Strong experience with Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, Databricks, and Apache Spark
Skilled in building and optimizing pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and analysis of large datasets
Proven background in migrating on-premises workloads to Azure using Azure Migrate, ASR, Data Factory, and Azure Database Migration Service
Proficient in SQL, ETL/ELT development, and data modeling (Star Schema, Snowflake Schema)
Knowledge of cloud networking, identity management, and security best practices
Hands-on experience with PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM templates, and automation tools
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control, and DevOps methods
Preferred Skills
Microsoft Azure certifications (Data Engineer, Administrator Associate, or equivalent)
Experience with hybrid cloud solutions
Exposure to containerization and orchestration tools such as AKS or Docker
Familiarity with monitoring tools like Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights
