Role description
Title: Senior BI & Analytics Engineer (Sigma / Power BI) Location: Remote (MST hours required) Employment Type: 6 Months (Contract) Visa: USC & GC Interview: Virtual Overview We are seeking a Senior BI & Analytics Engineer to lead the design, development, and operation of an enterprise analytics layer built on modern cloud data platforms. This role carries clear technical and delivery leadership expectations. You will be responsible not only for building dashboards, but for defining analytics standards, owning deployment and environment discipline, shaping how metrics are modeled and consumed, and ensuring analytics solutions are production-ready, trusted, and scalable. You will partner closely with data integration engineers, data science leadership, and business stakeholders to translate complex data into decision-ready insights across multiple user personas. This is not a report-builder role. It requires ownership, judgment, and the ability to lead analytics execution in a real enterprise environment. Responsibilities ●    Lead the design and development of analytics and dashboards using Sigma as the primary analytics platform, with Power BI used where appropriate. ●    Own analytics delivery from requirements through production, including dashboard design, data modeling, validation, and ongoing support. ●    Define and enforce analytics standards, including metric definitions, naming conventions, dashboard patterns, and documentation. ●    Translate business questions and decision-making needs into clear, actionable analytics requirements and visualizations. ●    Partner with data integration engineers to shape analytics-ready datasets in Databricks, ensuring correct grain, performance, and usability. ●    Own the semantic and metrics layer, ensuring consistency of KPIs across dashboards, users, and personas. ●    Establish and maintain Dev / Test / Prod environment segregation for analytics assets. ●    Lead deployment and promotion of analytics artifacts across environments, ensuring controlled releases and rollback capability. ●    Implement and manage source control and CI/CD practices for BI assets (Sigma and Power BI where applicable). ●    Ensure dashboards and analytics solutions meet performance, reliability, and usability expectations at scale. ●    Define and maintain access control patterns and row-level security in collaboration with platform and security teams. ●    Act as the primary point of accountability for analytics quality, accuracy, and trustworthiness. ●    Review and approve analytics designs and implementations produced by other BI developers. ●    Mentor and guide other analytics engineers, providing technical direction and feedback. ●    Collaborate with architects, data science leadership, and external partners to align analytics execution with broader platform strategy. ●    Proactively identify gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities across the analytics layer and drive solutions forward. Required Qualifications ●    8+ years of experience in BI, analytics engineering, or data visualization roles. ●    Demonstrated experience leading analytics delivery, either formally or through technical ownership. ●    Strong hands-on experience with Sigma in production environments. ●    Strong experience with Power BI, including data modeling, workspace management, and deployment practices. ●    Proven ability to define and manage Dev / Test / Prod environments for BI platforms. ●    Experience with source control and CI/CD concepts applied to analytics assets. ●    Strong SQL skills and ability to reason about data models, joins, and performance implications. ●    Experience working with Databricks, Spark-based platforms, or modern cloud data warehouses as analytics backends. ●    Strong understanding of analytics governance, metric consistency, and access control. ●    Ability to work directly with business stakeholders and translate ambiguity into clear analytics solutions. ●    Excellent communication skills and confidence operating as a technical leader. ●    Availability during Mountain Standard Time (MST) working hours. Preferred Qualifications ●    Experience serving analytics from Databricks to Sigma at scale. ●    Familiarity with high-frequency or near-real-time analytics use cases. ●    Experience working in complex, enterprise, or regulated environments. ●    Experience coordinating with external vendors or analytics implementation partners. ●    Background in analytics enablement for multiple personas or business domains. Why This Role This role sets the standard for how analytics are built, deployed, and trusted across the organization. You will lead analytics execution not by title alone, but by owning outcomes, setting direction, and ensuring analytics solutions actually support decision-making at scale. • If analytics are inconsistent, unreliable, or hard to trust, this role fixes that.
