Position Overview
The Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Developer will play a pivotal role in architecting, developing, and maintaining advanced BI solutions that empower strategic and operational decision-making throughout the organization. This individual will serve as a technical expert in business intelligence, providing actionable insights through the creation of sophisticated reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
In this role, the Senior BI Developer will engage extensively with business stakeholders, data analysts, and cross-functional IT professionals to translate business requirements into scalable BI solutions. The position requires a strong analytical mindset, deep technical proficiency, and a passion for leveraging data to drive business outcomes. Additionally, the individual will provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior BI developers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the analytics function.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Partner with key business stakeholders to thoroughly understand data and reporting needs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
β’ Architect and develop robust data models and efficient ETL workflows to support both current and future BI initiatives.
β’ Build, optimize, and maintain interactive dashboards, operational reports, and executive-level visualizations using tools such as Power BI and ThoughtSpot.
β’ Conduct data quality validation and in-depth analysis to ensure consistency, accuracy, and reliability of BI outputs.
β’ Proactively identify and troubleshoot performance issues, user-reported errors, and system inefficiencies, delivering timely solutions.
β’ Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, engineers, and subject matter experts, to integrate advanced analytics into BI deliverables.
β’ Lead the end-to-end development lifecycle for BI projects, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
β’ Contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives by providing expertise in BI system upgrades, data platform migrations, and architecture evolution from legacy to modern solutions.
β’ Establish and enforce BI development best practices and governance standards to ensure consistency, scalability, and maintainability.
β’ Provide strategic insights and predictive analytics to support enterprise performance management and forward-looking decision-making.
β’ Identify and champion new opportunities to utilize BI tools and data integrations that drive measurable business value.
β’ Guide and mentor less experienced developers, conducting code reviews, sharing knowledge, and supporting their technical growth.
β’ Participate in defining and executing testing strategies, including writing and validating test cases that confirm solution accuracy and performance.
β’ Deliver high-quality technical documentation, including process flows, data models, development standards, and user guides.
β’ Support change management efforts across the organization to increase adoption of BI tools and data-driven culture.
β’ Act as a BI subject matter expert and consultant for business-led technology initiatives, providing input on solution design and integration strategies.
β’ Assist end-users with developing self-service reports, queries, and ad-hoc analyses, while promoting BI literacy throughout the organization.
β’ Envision and plan future use cases for analytics solutions in collaboration with business leaders, including the adoption of mobile BI and real-time reporting.
β’ Maintain up-to-date knowledge of BI technologies, industry trends, and upcoming product releases to continuously enhance solution capabilities.
β’ Ensure consistency and accuracy of procedural documentation and technical materials across the BI team.
β’ Coordinate and collaborate with distributed teams across various geographical regions to execute project deliverables effectively.
Qualifications & Technical Competencies
β’ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field is required; a Masterβs degree is preferred.
β’ A minimum of 6 years of professional experience in enterprise-level BI development roles.
β’ At least 3 years of experience developing interactive dashboards, reports, and analytical applications.
β’ Advanced proficiency in SQL, with a strong ability to write optimized and scalable queries.
β’ In-depth expertise in DAX for data modeling, calculations, and business rule implementation.
β’ Strong conceptual and practical understanding of BI principles, data architecture, and visualization methodologies.
β’ Extensive hands-on experience with Power BI is required; familiarity with Tableau, QlikView, or other BI platforms is considered a plus.
β’ Solid understanding of ETL processes, data integration patterns, and data warehousing concepts.
β’ Proven ability to interpret and address ad-hoc reporting needs from business teams and deliver meaningful insights quickly.
β’ Demonstrated experience capturing, refining, and delivering against business requirements with end-to-end accountability.
β’ Experience working with Agile methodologies and collaborating within cross-functional scrum teams.
β’ Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
β’ Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high attention to detail.
β’ Adept at collaborating across distributed teams, time zones, and functional domains.
β’ Enthusiastic about continuous learning and professional development, with a desire to adopt and apply emerging technologies.
