Role description
Executive-Facing Analytics & Visualization Leader
Role Type: 1099 Independent Contractor
Founded in 2002, Source Allies is an agile, team-based technical consultancy focused on building industry-defining data and cloud-native solutions. We partner closely with enterprise clients to design, build, and evolve modern data ecosystems that drive measurable business outcomes.
We are seeking a Senior BI & Insights Consultant who thrives at the intersection of data, design, and executive communication. This is not a pipeline engineering role. This is a storytelling and insight leadership role.
You will work with teams consuming curated, enterprise-scale data products and transform them into clear, compelling, executive-ready dashboards and narratives that shape decision-making across digital and operational domains.
Engagement Overview
You will work downstream of multiple enterprise data product teams, owning visualization quality, executive reporting, and stakeholder communication across digital applications and operational metrics.
You will not own the upstream data pipelines or core enterprise data models. Instead, you will partner closely with data engineers and stakeholders to ensure curated data is translated into trusted insight.
What You’ll Do
Turn Data into Executive Insight
• Build and maintain scalable, trusted dashboards (primarily in Power BI)
• Create executive- and user-ready reporting artifacts
• Translate complex datasets into intuitive, actionable narratives
• Help leaders understand not just what the data says, but what it means
Own Visualization Quality & Storytelling
• Design interactive dashboards using modern UX/UI principles
• Apply strong visual storytelling and report design best practices
• Continuously improve clarity, usability, and adoption of reporting assets
Shape Data for BI Consumption
• Perform final aggregation, shaping, validation, and tuning of large datasets
• Use SQL to transform and wrangle data (often tens of millions of rows)
• Ensure reporting datasets are reliable, performant, and fit-for-purpose
• Apply light data engineering practices focused on downstream optimization
Partner with Stakeholders
• Collaborate closely with product, operations, and analytics leaders
• Explain joins, DAX logic, assumptions, and limitations in business language
• Proactively communicate timelines, tradeoffs, blockers, and data nuances
• Serve as a trusted advisor in discussions about performance and adoption metrics
Required Experience
• 3+ years building interactive Power BI dashboards for business stakeholders
• Demonstrated expertise in data visualization best practices, storytelling, and modern UI/UX design
• 3+ years of SQL experience transforming, validating, and shaping large datasets
• Experience preparing datasets specifically for BI and executive consumption
• Proven ability to communicate complex data concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
• Comfort presenting to senior leaders and facilitating insight-driven conversations
Helpful but Not Required
• Tableau experience (particularly in transition environments)
• Experience working with curated enterprise data products
• Python experience
What This Role Is Not
• Not a heavy data engineering or pipeline ownership role
• Not responsible for enterprise-wide data modeling strategy
• Not an API development position
• Not isolated from stakeholders
This role is insight-forward, communication-heavy, and focused on clarity and usability.
What Success Looks Like
• Executive stakeholders trust your dashboards
• Operators rely on your reporting for decision-making
• Data assumptions are transparent and well-understood
• Complex digital and operational metrics become intuitive
• Reporting assets are scalable, maintainable, and widely adopted
Engagement Details
• 1099 independent contractor engagement
• The pay range for this position is $90-$110/hr dependent on experience
• Expected collaboration with cross-functional enterprise teams
• Hybrid / onsite expectations may apply depending on client needs
