Senior Data & AI Engineer

THE TEAM YOU WILL BE JOINING You’ll join a newly formed AI Center of Excellence (CoE) within a large, asset-intensive organization in the transportation and industrial services sector. The CoE was created to govern, prioritize, and deliver AI initiatives across the enterprise. The team currently includes a small group of data scientists who are managing multiple existing initiatives. This newly created role expands the CoE’s ability to deliver, enabling more AI initiatives to move forward in parallel. What They Offer You • Opportunity to lead and own AI initiatives from day one in an early-stage CoE • High visibility and direct exposure to senior business leaders • Work on real-world, high-impact AI use cases, including: • Supply chain optimization in an asset-heavy environment • Predictive failure analysis to prevent costly operational disruptions • AI-driven process automation across enterprise workflows • Lean, entrepreneurial team where individual contributions are immediately visible • Collaborative, supportive business partners who value practical solutions\\ LOCATION • South End, Charlotte - Hybrid - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in office What You Will Do • Own AI initiatives from concept through delivery • Gather requirements directly from business stakeholders and ask clarifying questions • Design and build AI agents and automation-focused solutions • Write production-quality code across multiple contexts (Python, APIs, data workflows) • Integrate AI solutions with enterprise applications using REST APIs • Perform data manipulation and validation as needed to support AI use cases • Document solutions and support production readiness • Operate as a versatile, “jack-of-all-trades” contributor who can adapt across technical and business needs How You Will Qualify • Strong coding skills (Python and general software/data engineering fundamentals) • Experience integrating with enterprise applications • Comfort working with REST APIs • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders • Outgoing, collaborative style with confidence engaging business users • Ownership mindset and ability to lead initiatives independently • Experience building AI agents preferred but not required • Cloud experience (Azure or similar) is a plus, but not mandatory • No requirement for a traditional data science background
