Role description
β€’ US Citizenship Required β€’ Onsite in Silver Spring, MD β€’ Proposal Effort, Position is Subject to Contract Award Position Description Think Tank is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to support the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). This role will focus on analyzing international seafood trade data to identify risks, support compliance monitoring, and strengthen U.S. efforts to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. The successful candidate will apply quantitative and qualitative methods to complex datasets, support economic assessments, and translate technical analyses into plain language for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the public. Responsibilities β€’ Collect, categorize, and analyze trade data from diverse and complex data sources. β€’ Conduct and support risk assessments using both quantitative and qualitative information. β€’ Perform analysis with data-poor sets, providing guidance on appropriate methodologies. β€’ Support economic assessments under SIMP, including oversight of deliverables and analytical guidance. β€’ Develop data visualizations and written reports to communicate findings in clear, accessible language. Requirements β€’ Education/Experience: Advanced background in natural resource management (fisheries preferred), with knowledge of IUU fishing and seafood supply chains. β€’ Technical Skills: β€’ Experience working with large, complex trade datasets. β€’ Proficiency with analysis tools such as BigQuery, R, SQL, and Excel. β€’ Experience with data visualization software (e.g., Looker, R Studio). β€’ Professional Skills: β€’ Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical findings for non-technical audiences. β€’ Ability to work effectively across teams and with diverse stakeholders. β€’ Proficiency in one or more non-English languages preferred but not required.
