Sr. Data Analyst (Power BI / Fabric) Remote - 3-6 month contract Summary We are seeking a Senior Data Analyst with deep expertise in Microsoft Power BI, advanced SQL, and data modeling to support enterprise reporting and analytics initiatives. This role blends report development, optimization, data transformation, and stakeholder enablement. The ideal candidate is highly technical, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in Agile environments. You will enhance existing dashboards, build new reporting solutions, optimize DAX queries, manage semantic models, and support cross-functional teams in delivering scalable self-service business intelligence. This is a hands-on, high-impact role requiring both analytical rigor and strong communication skills. Responsibilities β€’ Design, build, and enhance interactive dashboards and automated reports using Microsoft Power BI. β€’ Optimize DAX queries and improve performance of existing Power BI reports and semantic models. β€’ Develop and maintain Power BI semantic models, including role-level and object-level security configurations. β€’ Write advanced SQL queries to extract, transform, and integrate data from multiple sources. β€’ Perform data preparation and transformation using Power Query (M language) and Fabric Dataflows. β€’ Support data ingestion from sources such as Smartsheets, Excel files, Denodo, and lakehouse environments. β€’ Contribute to Microsoft Fabric data architecture, including dataflows and lakehouse integrations. β€’ Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis to support business decision-making and root cause analysis. β€’ Translate business requirements into scalable reporting solutions and communicate trade-offs clearly. β€’ Apply statistical analysis and defensible data modeling techniques to ensure analytical accuracy. β€’ Create compelling data visualizations that communicate insights effectively to stakeholders. β€’ Teach and mentor teams on Power BI and Excel best practices to promote self-service BI adoption. β€’ Operate within Agile Scrum two-week sprint cycles, independently defining and managing work. β€’ Identify risks, recommend solutions, and proactively improve data processes and reporting standards. Required Qualifications β€’ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience. β€’ 7+ years of business or data analysis experience. β€’ 5+ years of progressive experience with Microsoft Excel. β€’ 5+ years of progressive experience writing advanced SQL queries. β€’ 5+ years of progressive experience building and optimizing Power BI reports and dashboards. β€’ Advanced knowledge of DAX for performance optimization and complex calculations. β€’ Strong experience with Power BI semantic models and security (role-level and object-level security). β€’ Working knowledge of Power Query (M language). β€’ Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments. β€’ Experience with Microsoft Fabric, including dataflows and lakehouses (or ability to ramp quickly). β€’ Ability to write programs using Python for automation and analysis. β€’ Strong understanding of intermediate statistics and risk assessment techniques. β€’ Excellent written and verbal communication skills. β€’ High attention to detail and ability to independently determine solutions. Preferred Qualifications β€’ Advanced expertise in DAX performance tuning. β€’ Advanced experience with Power Query M language. β€’ Experience supporting enterprise-wide self-service BI initiatives. β€’ Familiarity with data lake environments and modern cloud data platforms. β€’ Experience mentoring or coaching analysts.
