Senior Data Engineer ($60/hr)

About the Role We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize scalable data systems that drive critical business insights and decisions. This role requires deep technical expertise in Spark, Scala, and SQL, as well as a strong ability to analyze complex datasets, uncover patterns, and translate data into actionable intelligence. You will collaborate closely with engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to enhance our data infrastructure, improve data quality, and enable advanced analytics across the organization. Key Responsibilities • Develop and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL processes using tools such as Spark and Scala. • Reverse-engineer SQL queries and Scala code to understand existing system logic and enhance functionality. • Design and implement database structures, data models, and data mining techniques to support analytics and reporting. • Utilize automated tools to extract data from primary and secondary sources. • Cleanse and validate data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability. • Analyze data to assess quality and meaning, identifying trends, correlations, and performance indicators. • Use statistical and analytical tools (e.g., Excel, SPSS, SAS, R, Python) to interpret complex data sets and generate insights. • Prepare detailed reports and dashboards to communicate trends, patterns, and predictions to management and stakeholders. • Partner with cross-functional teams to identify process improvement opportunities, propose system enhancements, and define data governance standards. • Monitor and analyze local, national, and global trends impacting the business and industry. • Maintain data mapping documentation (e.g., ACRS, MARSHA) and support data-related queries across projects. Required Skills & Qualifications • Strong programming skills in Spark, Scala, and SQL. • Proven ability to analyze, reverse-engineer, and interpret complex code and datasets. • Experience with database design, data modeling, and data mining techniques. • Proficiency in data extraction, cleansing, and validation processes. • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify meaningful patterns and trends in large data sets. • Hands-on experience with ETL frameworks and reporting tools such as Business Objects. Preferred (Good-to-Have) Skills • Experience with big data platforms such as Hadoop, CouchDB, and Apache Spark. • Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau or Qlik. • Working knowledge of programming and scripting languages such as R, Python, JavaScript, or XML. • Understanding of statistical methods, forecasting, and predictive modeling. • Experience preparing executive-level reports summarizing insights, forecasts, and performance trends.
