Role description
About the Role:
We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer & Architect. This is a high-seniority, build-first role for someone who wants to move past traditional business analytics databases and dive deep into real-time data ingestion, telemetry file parsing, and machine learning models.
What You’ll Do:
• Own the Core Data Architecture: Design and build the entire data influx, ingestion layer, and pipeline processing infrastructure from scratch.
• Lead and Coordinate: Act as the senior technical lead coordinating our small, nimble development team (including full-stack and AI/Agent engineers).
• Telemetry Data Processing: Ingest and parse complex racing-telemetry data streams at scale into a clean, optimized, time-series data layer.
• Drive toward Machine Learning: Partner with our AI engineer to transition our proprietary driver-rating models from initial rule-based systems into robust ML models.
• Set Cloud & Tooling Patterns: Evaluate, select, and deploy our core stack (leaning heavily toward Microsoft Azure or AWS).
Technical Toolkit:
• We are looking for a senior profile with a deep background in data engineering, data infrastructure, and system design:
• Data Streaming & Processing: Advanced experience building scalable pipelines using Apache Kafka or similar message brokers.
• Databases: Strong proficiency in PostgreSQL and optimizing databases for time-series analysis.
• Languages & Backend: Deep familiarity with modern backend ecosystems, specifically Node.js and TypeScript.
• Cloud & DevOps: Strong architectural experience with Microsoft Azure (preferred) or AWS, utilizing Docker for containerization.
• Data Visualization: Ability to build quick tracking dashboards using Tableau or Microsoft Power BI to validate data layers and model accuracy.
• AI & Machine Learning: Familiarity with Machine Learning frameworks and Generative AI Tools to effectively collaborate with our dedicated AI team.
Qualifications & Profile:
• Seniority: Demonstrated experience architecting data pipelines and leading/coordinating small development teams in a fast-paced environment.
• The "Founder" Mindset: Comfortable bootstrapping a product from the ground up to hit a 6-month MVP deadline.
• Language: Fluent/Professional English proficiency.
The Ultimate Differentiator (Big Plus):
You are a sim racer or passionate about motorsport / track days.
You have hands-on experience working with sim-racing APIs or building telemetry tools (e.g., open-source contributors to iRacing .ibt parsers, telemetry pipelines, or live race overlays). If you understand what the data structure means before looking at the API, you are our ideal candidate.
