Role description
Thanks for taking time to stop by and take a look at the Senior Data Engineer with a focus on Azure Data & Governance) role I posted here on LinkedIn, I appreciate it. If you have read my job descriptions before, you know who I am. If you are new to my job descriptions, here is a quick introduction. My name is Tom Welke. I am Partner & VP at RSM Solutions, Inc and have been recruiting technical talent for over 24 years and been in the tech sector since the 1990s. So, I am not a 'bot' writing a job description...I am actual living breathing human. Here are a couple key things with regards to this role before we go further: • This role is a contract role that will last approximately 6 months. It can be done remotely. • This is NOT a role for a junior or mid level data engineer. • This client is pretty strict when it comes to visa status. So, I can only work with US Citizens or Green Card holders for this role. So, if you are an H1, OPT, EAD, H4, STEM, F1 or anyone other than a current US Citizen or Green Card holder, we won't have a fit for this role. • I am not working with external vendors for this role. So, if you are an external vendor that says 'I have a great candidate', please stop...I am not working with external vendors for this one. For this project, we are seeking someone that can work on configuring and enabling this client's Microsoft-based data and information platform foundations. So, think of this as a hybrid of a data architect / engineer with someone who can create a long term solution to this client's overall data platforms (another term for this is an Azure data platform SME). You will be working on executing the core technical work across lakehouse foundation setup, Microsoft Purview governance enablement, source system integration (primarily coming from NetSuite), working with OpEx and COGS data, PowerBI consumption, and baseline operation readiness. This will be done across a group of 8 activities. Those activities will work across the following: • Architecture review & platform alignment • Platform Decision Support & recommendation • Information governance & catalog enablement • SharePoint and unstructured content strategy definition • Lakehouse foundation configuration • Source system integration & MVP data production development • Analytics enablement • Operational readiness & knowledge transfer Here is what we are seeking in terms of experience: • 10 or more years of experience delivering Microsoft Azure-based data platforms and Azure Fabric in real-world environments, including moving from design intent to production-ready implementation. • As you might have guessed, implementation experience with Microsoft Azure data services, including ADLS and data integration patterns is a must have. • Experience implementing governance & catalog capabilities using Microsoft Purview (this should include scanning, classification, lineage and role-based access patterns. • Several years of experience designing and implementing lakehouse foundations using ADLS and Delta Lake, with medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) patterns and operational progression rules. This is a must have. • Experience integrating SaaS systems via supported mechanisms (APIs/REST connectors/ODBC where applicable), delivering curated datasets for analytics outcomes. • Experience enabling Power BI consumption through well-modeled datasets and semantic layer considerations, tied to certified data products. • Experience building for operability, including monitoring/logging and cost visibility as foundational run readiness elements. • Experience with NetSuite data extraction and analytics enablement for financial use cases (including OpEx and COGS reporting patterns).
