Our client is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Senior Data Engineer to support the modernization of our data systems and infrastructure. You will play a pivotal role in transitioning from legacy platforms to modern, scalable solutions using Microsoft Fabric, Azure Databricks, and Power BI. This is a hands-on engineering role with opportunities to shape our data architecture and enable enterprise-wide, data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
• Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric and Azure Databricks.
• Implement medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) for efficient data lifecycle and quality.
• Lead decommissioning efforts of legacy SQL-based infrastructure and SSRS.
• Develop and manage Fabric Notebooks, Databricks Notebooks using Python, SQL, and Spark.
• Deliver curated datasets and models to support Power BI reporting and dashboards.
• Build dimensional and real-time data models to support business intelligence use cases.
• Collaborate with data analysts and business stakeholders to deliver trusted data assets.
• Implement data governance (row-level security, data masking, classification) using Microsoft Purview or Unity Catalog.
• Use Azure DevOps for monitoring, logging, and CI/CD automation.
• Provide support for data migration and cutover activities to minimize downtime.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
• 5+ years in data engineering roles, ideally in regulated or public sector environments
• Strong experience with SQL, Python, Spark
• Proven expertise with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and Azure data services
• Experience in data modeling, data warehousing, and analytics
• Solid understanding of ETL/ELT pipeline design, data lifecycle, and schema design
• Familiarity with data governance frameworks and tools like Microsoft Purview or Unity Catalog
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer or Azure Data Engineer Associate
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps
• Knowledge of data security frameworks (FIPS, NIST, etc.)
• Experience in modernizing and decommissioning legacy reporting systems
