Role description
Senior Data Engineer (Contract) Rate: £600–£650 per day (Outside IR35) Location: Fully remote (Must be UK based) Duration: Initial 9 months, with strong likelihood of extensions through 2027 Start: Mid–late January 2026 Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to support a large-scale data transformation programme for a major banking client. The role will focus on migrating a complex enterprise data platform from Oracle to Databricks on Azure, helping to design and build scalable, cloud-native data solutions in a regulated environment. Key Responsibilities • Design, build and optimise data pipelines on Databricks and Azure • Lead and contribute to the migration of data and workloads from Oracle to Databricks • Develop high-quality, production-grade data solutions using Python • Collaborate closely with architects, analysts and engineering teams across the banking organisation • Ensure data quality, performance, security and best-practice engineering standards Required Skills & Experience • Strong experience as a Senior Data Engineer on large-scale data platforms • Hands-on Databricks experience, ideally within Azure • Proven experience migrating from legacy databases (e.g. Oracle) to cloud-based platforms • Advanced Python skills for data engineering • Solid understanding of data modelling, ETL/ELT and distributed data processing Nice to Have • Experience working within banking or other regulated environments • Exposure to Prophecy for Databricks • Background in long-running enterprise transformation programmes This is a long-term contract opportunity on a high-profile banking programme, offering stability, flexibility and the chance to play a key role in a modern data platform transformation.
