Senior Data Engineer – Data Modelling Location: UK-based (Remote) Security Clearance: Must be eligible for BPSS Security Clearance (minimum 5 years’ UK residency required) Overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Data Engineer – Data Modelling to join a large-scale digital transformation programme within a secure, enterprise environment. The role focuses on designing and implementing data mapping and modelling solutions that enable the movement, transformation, and alignment of data across multiple platforms and systems. You will work closely with architects, business analysts, and technical stakeholders to ensure data is modelled, mapped, and migrated accurately and efficiently, supporting high-impact decision-making and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities β€’ Analyse and interpret source and target data structures (e.g. databases, XML, JSON, CSV, EDI) to define and document data mappings. β€’ Develop and maintain data modelling and mapping specifications, transformation logic, and integration rules. β€’ Ensure semantic alignment and integrity between data systems through collaboration with domain experts. β€’ Maintain a strong focus on data quality, validation, and governance across all stages of transformation. β€’ Validate mapping outputs, troubleshoot data discrepancies, and document metadata for traceability. β€’ Contribute to the development of best practices, documentation standards, and process improvements. β€’ Support secure and compliant data management in line with internal and governmental standards. Key Skills and Experience Essential: β€’ UK National with a minimum of 5 years’ continuous residency (to satisfy security clearance requirements). β€’ Experience with enterprise asset management systems (e.g. IBM Maximo). β€’ Strong experience in data modelling, including conceptual, logical, and physical layers. β€’ Proven track record in data mapping, data transformation, or data integration roles. β€’ Hands-on experience with structured and semi-structured data formats (XML, JSON, CSV, EDI, XLSX). β€’ Skilled in SQL and familiar with one or more major relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server). β€’ Demonstrated ability to design and optimise ETL or data pipeline solutions. β€’ Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills. β€’ Commitment to maintaining data accuracy, quality, and governance standards. Desirable: β€’ Familiarity with ETL or data integration tools such as DataStage, Talend, or Palantir Foundry. β€’ Knowledge of XML transformation (XSLT), BPMN, UML, or Excel-based mapping documentation. β€’ Experience working within secure government or defence environments.
