BCforward is currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Data Engineering & Cloud Platform) Position Title: Senior Software Engineer (Data Engineering & Cloud Platform) Location: 100% Remote Start Date: ASAP Please note this is the target start date and is subject to change. BCforward will provide official notice ahead of a confirmed start date Expected Duration: 5+ Months Potential Extension/Conversion: High potential for extension or full-time conversion Job Type: Full time (40 Hours per Week) Pay Range: $65/hr -$75/hr About the Role We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong Data Engineering and Cloud Platform experience to support the development of a large-scale Research Data Platform. This platform is responsible for ingesting, validating, cataloging, and making research-generated data discoverable for scientific and healthcare research initiatives. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience building cloud-native data pipelines, backend services, and scalable distributed systems using Python and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and maintain backend services and data processing applications. • Build and support data ingestion, transformation, validation, and replication pipelines. • Develop automated data quality and validation frameworks. • Create and maintain data catalogs, metadata repositories, and dataset documentation. • Deploy and manage containerized applications using Docker. • Develop cloud-native solutions utilizing Google Cloud Platform (GCP). • Participate in Agile development processes and CI/CD deployment practices. • Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, Data Engineers, and cross-functional teams. • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and perform root cause analysis. • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices. Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field. • 5+ years of software engineering experience. • Strong programming experience with Python. • Experience building data pipelines and backend applications. • Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure). • Experience with Linux environments. • Strong understanding of: • Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) • Git and source control • CI/CD pipelines • Agile methodologies • Distributed systems and microservices architecture • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including: • BigQuery • Cloud Storage • Dataflow • Cloud SQL • Google Batch • Experience with Docker and containerized deployments. • Experience using Azure DevOps. • Experience working with large-scale data platforms and analytics systems. • Healthcare, Life Sciences, Clinical Research, or Scientific Research experience. • Knowledge of research data management and scientific datasets. • Experience supporting machine learning or data science environments.
