Role description
Title: Senior Data EngineerLocation: Washington, DC (Hybrid; Webcam or In-Person)
Position Overview:The Senior Data Engineer leads Medicaid data modernization efforts, maintaining legacy SQL/SSIS systems while building cloud solutions in Azure Synapse and Databricks Lakehouse. Reports to the Lead Data Warehouse Solution Architect.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and optimize SSIS ETL packages, SSRS reports, and SSAS models for Medicaid data.
Migrate legacy processes to Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Synapse.
Implement Medallion Architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) and CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
Ensure data governance, security, and compliance (HIPAA, CMS MARS-E, NIST).
Develop automated data validation and reconciliation frameworks.
Required Skills & Experience:
7+ years SSIS, T-SQL, SQL Server (SSAS/SSRS)
7+ years Azure Databricks, PySpark, Azure Synapse
7+ years Team Foundation Server (TFS) experience; Azure DevOps/Git migration
6–10 years leading advanced technology projects
Bachelors degree in IT or related field
Experience with Medicaid/Medicare data structures and regulated environments preferred
Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate or Databricks Professional preferred
Competencies:
Technical agility across legacy and cloud platforms
Strong collaboration and communication skills
High attention to detail with critical Medicaid data
