Senior Data Engineer (Data Migration – Energy & Utilities)
💰 £500/day (Inside IR35) |📍 Warwick, UK (3 days onsite) | 📅 6-Month Contract
Our client, a top global organization, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Engineer – Data Migration Specialist to support a large-scale transformation programme within the Energy & Utilities sector. This role focuses on designing, delivering, and assuring end-to-end data migration solutions across legacy and cloud platforms, with a strong emphasis on Azure and Snowflake ecosystems, data quality, and regulatory compliance. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will lead complex data migration initiatives, transforming legacy systems into scalable, cloud-based solutions.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead end-to-end data migration lifecycle (discovery → cutover)
• Design and develop ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory and modern tooling
• Develop and optimise complex SQL transformations
• Ensure data quality, reconciliation, and consistency across environments
• Review and assure migration solutions for scalability and performance
• Build and optimise data solutions on Snowflake and Azure
• Implement batch and near real-time data ingestion pipelines
• Design dimensional and analytical data models
• Optimise performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for data delivery
• Use Azure DevOps, Git, and dataops.live for automation
• Establish monitoring, logging, and observability frameworks
• Promote repeatable, version-controlled data engineering practices
• Work with SCADA, telemetry, and asset/network datasets
• Ensure compliance with Energy & Utilities regulatory standards
• Define data quality frameworks, validation rules, and lineage
• Support governance, metadata management, and auditability
• Collaborate with architects, analysts, and platform teams
• Translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship
Essential Skills & Experience
• 10+ years in data engineering, with strong data migration experience
• Proven experience delivering large-scale data migration programmes
• Strong expertise in Azure Data Platform (ADF, Azure DevOps)
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake
• Advanced SQL and data transformation skills
• Experience with ETL/ELT tools and frameworks
• Strong DataOps / CI-CD pipeline experience
• Experience working with complex, regulated datasets
• Strong understanding of data quality, governance, and lineage
• Excellent stakeholder communication and leadership skills
Desirable Experience
• Experience within Energy & Utilities or similar regulated industries
• Knowledge of SCADA, telemetry, or CNI datasets
• Experience with real-time or streaming data pipelines
• Exposure to dataops.live or similar tooling
• Experience in Agile delivery environments
