Role description
For over a century, our clients organization has been a trusted partner to schools, educators, and families, inspiring a lifelong love of reading and learning in children around the world. We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our analytics and technology team to help shape the future of how millions of young readers discover and access books.
In this role, you will design and build scalable data pipelines, develop predictive and machine learning models, and deliver actionable insights that drive our mission of connecting children with stories and resources that empower them to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain robust data pipelines using SQL and Python (Pandas) to support analytics, business intelligence, and modeling initiatives.
• Build, evaluate, and optimize machine learning models (e.g., XGBoost, Random Forest, and other algorithms) to solve high-impact business problems.
• Deploy and monitor models in production environments, ideally leveraging AWS SageMaker, Airflow, Docker, and Jupyter Notebooks.
• Apply best practices in version control and collaborative coding using Git.
• Partner with product, marketing, sales, and operations teams to translate business objectives into data science–driven solutions.
• Present findings and recommendations in a clear, actionable way to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in a data science role with demonstrated success applying ML techniques to real-world problems.
• Strong expertise in SQL and Python (Pandas).
• Hands-on experience with standard ML algorithms such as XGBoost and Random Forest.
• Experience deploying ML models to production (e.g., using Airflow and/or Docker).
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in economics, finance, computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or other quantitative disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
• Forecasting experience using tools such as AutoGluon or Darts.
• Experience working with AWS SageMaker and Jupyter Notebooks.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL and experience with customer data sets.
• Experience with Git for collaborative coding.
• Exposure to LLM fine-tuning for emerging AI applications.
This is a rare opportunity to combine advanced data science skills with a mission-driven focus—helping shape the way millions of children discover the joy of reading.
