Senior Data Scientist Birmingham, AL Long-Term Contract Position Summary We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist with 5-10 years of experience to lead complex analytical projects and develop machine learning solutions. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with scientific rigor to extract meaningful insights from large datasets and translate findings into actionable business recommendations. Job Responsibilities • Conduct comprehensive data analysis using advanced statistical methods and machine learning techniques • Perform data wrangling, preprocessing, and exploratory data analysis on complex datasets • Apply the scientific method to formulate hypotheses, design experiments, and validate findings • Build, optimize, and deploy machine learning models using various algorithms (supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning) • Design and implement data processing pipelines using big data frameworks • Create compelling data visualizations and dashboards to communicate insights • Present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code in R and/or Python • Lead data science projects from conception to deployment • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into analytical solutions • Mentor junior team members and stay current with emerging data science trends Job Requirements • 5-10 years of professional experience in data science, analytics, or related field • Proven track record of completing end-to-end data science projects • Advanced degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related quantitative field (preferred) Technical Skills • Programming: Proficiency in R or Python (both preferred) • Statistics: Strong foundation in statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, and experimental design • Scientific Method: Firm grasp of scientific methodology and experimental design principles • Machine Learning: Hands-on experience with various ML algorithms including regression, classification, clustering, ensemble methods, and deep learning frameworks • Big Data: Experience with distributed computing frameworks (Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) • Data Visualization: Proficiency in visualization tools (ggplot2, matplotlib, Tableau, Power BI) and dashboard development • Database Systems: Knowledge of SQL and data warehousing concepts Core Competencies • Advanced data analysis skills with ability to work with large, complex datasets • Strong understanding of data wrangling and ETL processes • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities • Strong communication skills for presenting technical findings to diverse audiences • Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and collaborative development practices • Experience with A/B testing, causal inference, and MLOps practices (preferred)
