Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly analytical Senior Data Scientist to develop predictive models and apply advanced analytics techniques to generate actionable insights from complex datasets. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders across the organization to support strategic, data-driven decision-making and deliver measurable business impact.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and deploy predictive models and machine learning algorithms to solve complex business problems.
Apply advanced statistical analysis and data science techniques to large, structured and unstructured datasets.
Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Work collaboratively with business leaders, data engineers, and analysts to identify opportunities for data-driven improvement.
Lead end-to-end data science projects, from problem definition and data exploration to model deployment and performance monitoring.
Ensure data quality, integrity, and governance standards are maintained throughout the analytics lifecycle.
Communicate model performance, assumptions, and limitations clearly to stakeholders.
Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to best practices within the data science function.
Stay current with emerging data science methodologies, tools, and industry trends.
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience in developing and deploying predictive models in a commercial or public sector environment.
Strong knowledge of statistical modelling, machine learning, and advanced analytics techniques.
Proficiency in Python and/or R for data analysis and model development.
Experience working with large and complex datasets (SQL, data warehouses, cloud platforms).
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Ability to translate business requirements into analytical solutions.
Experience with data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
Desirable
Experience working within UK public sector, local authorities, or NHS environments.
Knowledge of MLOps, model deployment, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
Understanding of data governance, GDPR, and ethical AI principles.
Experience leading or mentoring data teams.
Qualifications
Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field (Master’s or PhD desirable).
Relevant professional certifications (desirable but not essential).
Personal Attributes
Strong analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills.
Commercial awareness and strategic thinking capability.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environments.
