Role description
Payrate: $70.00 - $74.00/hr.
Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Scientist to lead emissions-focused analytics and regulatory modeling efforts. This role is critical to the Marine division, as it supports complex emissions calculations, regulatory compliance, and fleet-level reporting work that no other team in Marine is currently doing. You will work closely with the NPR/NPI teams, LPSD, and other cross-functional groups to ensure scalable, validated, and production-ready solutions.
Responsibilities:
• Emissions & Regulatory Analytics
• Lead the development and maintenance of complex emissions calculation models, including extrapolation logic and validation testing.
• Support emissions upgrades and baseline reporting for marine fleets.
• Collaborate with regulatory and compliance teams to ensure alignment with evolving emissions standards.
• Project Leadership
• Own end-to-end delivery of data science projects, from scoping and development to deployment and handoff.
• Serve as the lead data scientist supporting the NPR/NPI team, with potential handoff to LPSD for long-term ownership.
• Data Science & Engineering
• Build and optimize data pipelines (ETL) and model workflows using Python, SQL, and Snowflake.
• Apply machine learning techniques including supervised, unsupervised, and deep learning, with a focus on image processing and identification.
• Leverage GenAI to enhance automation and insight generation.
• Performing data mining, designing data models, and communicating actionable insights through visualizations to management. The role requires strong analytical thinking, programming skills, and an understanding of big data technologies to drive data-driven decisions and improve outcomes.
• Collaboration & Communication
• Work closely with trusted vendors, internal stakeholders, and technical leads to ensure alignment and scalability.
• Translate complex technical insights into business-friendly language for broader adoption and understanding.
Required Technical Skills:
• Python (strong proficiency)
• Proficiency in Python, R, and SQL for data manipulation, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and model development.
• Machine Learning (experience with supervised, unsupervised and deep learning algorithms, image processing/image identification)
• Strong knowledge of statistical tools and concepts, including machine learning, model development, validation, and deployment.
• Data Engineering / ETL
• SQL / Snowflake
• GenAI experience (Using data collection, modeling, analysis, summarizing and combining it with ML for predictions, optimization, etc...)
• CI/CD Experience/Knowledge
Nice to Have Skills:
• Power BI for visualization and reporting
• Azure DevOps / Azure Repos
• Emissions domain knowledge (estimation, regulatory frameworks)
• While Experience in the Industry or similar is very helpful, not having it isn’t a disqualifier.
Soft Skills:

• Collaboration: Experience working in cross-functional teams and openness to feedback

Pay Transparency: The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is: $70.00 - $74.00/hr. This role is also eligible for a performance-based incentive plan. Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education, and experience. Full-time employees are eligible for benefits including medical, dental, and vision benefits, 10 paid holidays, open paid time off, four weeks paid parental leave, 401(k) plan participation, life and disability insurance, commuter benefits, mobile phone reimbursement and wellness reimbursement.
