Role description
Job Title: Senior Database Developer (Migration MS Access to SQL/Cloud) Duration: 10 Months Location: Austin, Tx Key Responsibilities β€’ Design, develop, and maintain relational databases, ensuring performance, reliability, and security. β€’ Lead migration of legacy Microsoft Access databases into modern cloud-native SQL platforms. β€’ Analyze existing data structures and design schema transformations to optimize performance. β€’ Build and manage ETL pipelines, validation checks, and cut-over plans for smooth data transition. β€’ Perform database performance tuning, monitoring, and optimization. β€’ Coordinate with programmers, analysts, and stakeholders to assess impact of database changes. β€’ Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with agency and accessibility standards. β€’ Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures. β€’ Support installation, configuration, and benchmarking of database systems. β€’ Provide technical assistance to users, including troubleshooting and accessibility support. β€’ Maintain data dictionary, documentation, and standards for consistency across systems. Required Skills β€’ 10+ years of Proven experience in designing, developing, and maintaining advanced MS Access databases, including the creation of normalized table structures, sophisticated queries for data extraction and manipulation, intuitive data entry forms, and comprehensive rpts β€’ 10+ years of Expert-level relational database design, normalization, ER modeling, schema refactoring, and translating Access data models into scalable SQL schemas β€’ 10+ years of Experience with Microsoft Access, including table design, complex queries, forms, reports, and Skilled in leveraging VBA for custom functionalities and workflow automation β€’ 10+ years of Experience with migrating legacy databases into at least one major cloud SQL service (Azure SQL Database/Managed Instance. PostgreSQL, AWS RDS for SQL Server/MySQL) β€’ 8+ years of ETL tool experience with SSIS, Azure Data Factory, AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), or equivalent β€’ 8+ years of creating migration runbooks, data dictionaries, technical documentation, and delivering training or knowledge-transfer sessions β€’ 8+ years of Experience with RDBMS admin/console tools such as TOAD, SSMS and/or SQL Developer. β€’ 8+ years of Configuring data integration and batch processing solutions in Azure Data Factory and/or SSIS; monitoring data ingestion processes and performance; review query plans and identify problem areas in execution plans. Preferred Skills β€’ 8+ years of Migrating data from legacy database to new target database β€’ 6+ years of Hands-on experience with CI/CD methodology, GitHub, JIRA β€’ 6+ years of Hands-on experience with data visualization/reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau β€’ 6+ years of Hands-on experience with Agile Development Methodologies β€’ 3+ years of Prior experience in healthcare or Public Health β€’ 3+ years of Experience implementing and using agile methodologies and best practices for 1 or more State of Texas Agencies Lead Auditor).
