Role description
Magnet is hiring a Senior Data/ETL Engineer (contract-to-hire). We're re-architecting the ingestion layer behind a platform that operates at extreme volume. If you've built pipelines that move enormous amounts of data, this will feel like home. The reality: the current pipeline works, but it won't carry the next order of magnitude. You'll design what comes next, and you'll do it knowing the data never stops flowing while you do. There's no maintenance window where the world politely pauses. The new architecture has to prove itself alongside the old one before it takes over. This is a deep systems-design role. You'll be reasoning about throughput and backpressure, about what happens when a downstream system slows down and the upstream firehose doesn't care, and about keeping data integrity intact while moving massive, high-cardinality, time-series data continuously. The interesting problems here aren't about writing one more transform. They're about designing a system that stays correct and fast as volume keeps climbing. You'll have real latitude on tooling and approach. We care far more about whether you've actually operated pipelines at this scale than about which framework you reach for first. What you'll own: → Re-architecting a high-volume ingestion pipeline → Throughput, backpressure, and data integrity at scale → Time-series and high-cardinality data handling → Building it in Python or Go Must have: proven large-scale ETL/streaming experience, strong Python or Go. $140/hr, 30-40 hrs/week, remote.
