Role description
Machine Learning Engineer – 6-Month FTC
£90,000 – £110,000
UK-wide (Hybrid: London client-site)
Our client is a leading AI consultancy and software company delivering impactful, human-centric AI solutions to government, industry, and global organisations. With a proven track record across critical national projects, they combine deep technical expertise with a pragmatic approach to solving complex, high-stakes problems.
They are now seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join their London Government team on a 6-month fixed-term contract. This role offers the opportunity to design, build, and deploy production-grade ML systems that have a direct impact on government services and policy delivery.
What you’ll be doing
• Designing and delivering software, infrastructure, and MLOps systems that bring ML models into real-world use.
• Collaborating in cross-functional teams with engineers, data scientists, product managers, and designers.
• Creating scalable, reusable tools that improve ML deployment and operationalisation.
• Leading on technical design and delivery of government-focused projects.
• Providing technical expertise to stakeholders and mentoring less experienced engineers.
• Developing and embedding best practices for managing ML in production.
What we’re looking for
• Active SC Clearance
• Strong software engineering background with proficiency in Python.
• Experience deploying ML models built with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn.
• Knowledge of probability, statistics, and common ML techniques.
• Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Proficiency with containers, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
• Comfortable working in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
Travel & Location
• Open to applicants from anywhere in the UK.
• Expectation to travel to London client site up to 3 days per week (worst case), with the remainder of time split between remote and office-based working.
Why join
• Work on government AI projects that have real-world policy and citizen impact.
• Competitive fixed-term salary: £90,000 – £110,000 (pro rata).
• Hybrid working with flexibility across UK locations.
• Opportunity to shape and deliver applied AI systems at scale.
• Be part of a high-calibre team with exposure to cutting-edge thinking in AI engineering.
This is a role for someone who wants to move beyond experimentation and bring machine learning into live production systems where it makes a measurable difference to public services. If you have the technical capability, the clearance, and the drive to deliver meaningful outcomes, this is a chance to contribute to projects that matter while working alongside some of the most skilled practitioners in applied AI.
