Role description
Senior Machine Learning Engineer | Contract Role
Outside IR35 | £600-700/day | Remote in the UK | Initial 3 Months
We’ve partnered with a fast-growing tech business undergoing a major rebuild of one of their core platform capabilities.
They’re looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to help design and develop the modelling logic that underpins a critical decision-making system. This role sits at the intersection of machine learning, applied modelling, and software engineering - focused on solving complex, real-world problems rather than building standard predictive models.
This is a hands-on role working within a small, high-impact team on a greenfield build, with direct input into how the system evolves over time.
This is outside IR35, fully remote, with an initial 3-month contract and strong potential for extension.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and build modelling logic that represents real-world rules, constraints, and pricing/cost structures within a production system
• Develop and optimise cost, scoring, or evaluation functions that directly influence real-time decisions
• Translate complex, often ambiguous business requirements into clear, robust, and testable implementations
• Build efficient solutions for handling computationally complex problems in live environments
• Collaborate closely with engineers and stakeholders to ensure accuracy, performance, and scalability
Ideal Candidate
• Strong experience as a Machine Learning Engineer or applied Data Scientist working on production systems
• Background in pricing, financial modelling, billing, or other rule-heavy environments
• Experience building systems where model outputs directly drive pricing, cost, or decision logic
• Comfortable working across both modelling and software engineering challenges
• Strong problem-solving ability with experience tackling complex, ambiguous problems
Tech Stack Required:
• Python
• Cloud (AWS or similar)
• APIs / Microservices
• Strong fundamentals in system design
Bonus:
• Experience working on optimisation, simulation, or decisioning systems
• Background in fintech, pricing engines, or regulated environments
• Exposure to real-time or high-performance systems
