Role description
Senior Machine Learning Engineer (AI Training) About The Role What if your deep understanding of machine learning could directly shape how the next generation of AI systems reason, plan, and solve complex problems? We're looking for Senior Machine Learning Engineers to author high-fidelity reasoning traces — the structured, step-by-step thinking that teaches LLMs how to approach real-world tasks with precision and reliability. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for experienced ML practitioners who want to work at the frontier of AI development, on their own schedule, without sacrificing depth or impact. • Organization: Alignerr • Type: Hourly Contract • Location: Remote • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week What You'll Do • Author complex, high-fidelity reasoning traces that capture how an LLM should plan, use tools, and make decisions across sophisticated technical tasks • Design and document structured decision-making workflows that help AI models navigate intricate, real-world scenarios • Review and mentor reasoning trace outputs to ensure optimal quality, logical clarity, and sound tool-use documentation • Develop data strategies that improve how LLMs reason through multi-step problems end to end • Collaborate with a global team working directly with leading AI research labs Who You Are • Experienced machine learning practitioner with significant hands-on expertise in ML, deep learning, or a closely related technical field • Skilled at decomposing complex problems into clear, logical, well-documented steps — you think in systems and structure • Familiar with advanced LLM evaluation, fine-tuning, and training methodologies • Detail-oriented and rigorous — you hold your work to a high standard and it shows • Comfortable working independently and asynchronously in a remote environment Nice to Have • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assessment, or AI evaluation pipelines • Top-tier Kaggle competition results (Grandmaster or Master level) demonstrating elite model performance and feature engineering skills • Background in AI safety, model alignment, or RLHF workflows • Experience writing technical documentation or structured analytical frameworks Why Join Us • Work at the cutting edge of AI — your contributions directly influence how frontier LLMs learn to reason • Collaborate with a team partnered with the world's leading AI research labs • Fully remote and asynchronous — work when it suits you, from anywhere • Freelance autonomy with meaningful, intellectually demanding work • Exposure to state-of-the-art LLM training methodologies you won't find anywhere else • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
