Role description
Job Title: Senior Database Engineer/DBA
• No C2C/No Sponsorship
• Location: Remote CST/EST/MST
Duration: Contract-to-Hire
Pay: $75-85/hr W2 Only
Schedule: 40 hours/week with mandatory weekend coverage on Saturday from 6-10pm CST.
Job Description
The Senior Database Engineer/DBA will be responsible for supporting and coordinating all database activities in a MSSQL Server environment. This includes designing and creating databases, provisioning of roles and users, security and access control, deploying scripts, database optimization, monitoring, backup/recovery, resolving complex user related problems, and monitoring all database related work orders in a timely manner. The large and diverse database environment at Medidata is perfect for those individuals with an eye for performance tuning and optimization.
Your Competencies:
• Provide database engineering support for large mission critical systems running Microsoft SQL Server
• Implement high availability, database replication, database sharding and partitioning
• Learn new database technologies as application architecture evolves
• Diagnose and resolve production database and application problems within defined SLAs
• Develop proactive alert and monitoring tools to assist in high performance of large Microsoft SQL Server environment.
• Plan and implement database upgrades and migrations as needed.
• Assist internal and external stakeholders in developing high performing queries and ETL solutions
• Monitor and identify database bottlenecks before critical incidents adversely affect our clients
• Participate in agile software development processes
• Assist in creating documented processes and procedures to solve complex problems
• Work closely with R&D application development team
• Ability to lead projects/initiatives and act as mentor for other database engineers in the team
• Ability to work in a globally diversified team of database engineers
• Recommend, implement, and maintain best practices and corporate standards
• Participate in an on-call rotation with other database engineers to provide 24x7 support
• Ability to work in Windows and Linux environments as needed
• Knowledge of Git and GitHub
• Ability to work with cross functional teams to troubleshoot full application stack
• Familiarity with AWS, On premise, and Hybrid cloud solutions
• Experience with identifying database performance issues and making recommendations towards resolution
• Ability to write and maintain PowerShell scripts
• Knowledge of Agile Methodologies
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
Your Education & Experience:
• Bachelors or Master degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or Engineering preferred
• 8+ years. of experience in Database Engineering (or Administration) with MSSQL Server in a production environment
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies a plus but not required:
• Experience with High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.
• Familiarity with docker, Kubernetes or containers
• Familiarity with Snowflake, MongoDB
• Familiarity with VMWare, Cisco UCS, and flash storage technologies such as Pure
