Senior Power BI Engineer – D365 Finance & Operations

This is a remote position. We are seeking a Senior Power BI Engineer to design and deliver high-impact operational dashboards and reports leveraging Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) data. This role will serve as the Power BI subject matter expert within a team that has deep D365 functional expertise but limited in-house Power BI engineering capability. The ideal candidate will be able to quickly understand D365 data structures, build production-grade semantic models, and deliver accurate, secure, and performance-optimized dashboards that support Finance and Operations stakeholders. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on execution, governance, and rapid delivery of business-critical reporting solutions. Key Responsibilities Power BI Engineering & Delivery • Design and develop scalable Power BI semantic models sourced from D365 F&O data. • Build operational dashboards and reports for Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations teams. • Develop advanced DAX measures and time-intelligence calculations. • Implement star schema data models optimized for performance and usability. • Configure and manage dataset refresh strategies and performance tuning. • Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) aligned with ERP access requirements. • Establish Power BI development standards and best practices. D365 ERP Reporting Alignment • Work closely with D365 functional SMEs to understand Finance and SCM processes. • Translate D365 data entities and tables into reporting-ready models. • Validate report outputs against D365 transactional data to ensure accuracy. • Support reporting across modules such as General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable/ Accounts Receivable, Procurement & Sourcing, Inventory Management, Warehouse Management Governance & Standards • Establish reusable data models and reporting frameworks for D365-based reporting. • Ensure secure deployment through Power BI Service and deployment pipelines. • Document data models, calculations, and report logic. • Support compliance and control requirements as needed (e.g., SOX alignment). Requirements • 5–8+ years of Power BI development experience. • Advanced expertise in: o DAX (complex measures, financial logic, time intelligence) o Dimensional modeling (star schema design) o Dataset performance optimization o Incremental refresh and data modeling best practices • Strong SQL skills. • Experience building reports sourced from ERP systems (D365 F&O strongly preferred). • Strong understanding of financial and/or supply chain reporting concepts. • Ability to gather requirements independently and deliver production-ready dashboards. Preferred Qualifications • Experience working with D365 F&O data (Export to Data Lake, Synapse, Azure SQL). • Experience in Finance or Supply Chain reporting environments. • Experience implementing Row-Level Security in enterprise environments. • Exposure to Azure data services. • Experience in regulated or SOX-controlled environments. What Success Looks Like in the First 6 Months • Deliver critical operational dashboards for Finance and Supply Chain. • Establish standardized Power BI modeling practices. • Ensure ERP-to-report reconciliation and data accuracy. • Enable internal teams with reusable, scalable reporting frameworks.
