Role description
Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior PowerBuilder Developer with prior tax domain experience to support and enhance enterprise-scale tax applications as part of a long-term modernization initiative. This role focuses on maintaining legacy systems, developing integrations, and supporting ongoing enhancements in a collaborative Agile environment.
The ideal candidate has strong PowerBuilder expertise, solid relational database experience, and hands-on knowledge of tax processing systems, preferably within state tax or revenue environments.
Responsibilities
Maintain, enhance, and support legacy PowerBuilder-based tax applications
Design and develop system integrations and interfaces
Perform application analysis, troubleshooting, and defect resolution
Support modernization and phased rollout initiatives
Collaborate with business analysts, QA, and project managers
Participate in Agile ceremonies (planning, stand-ups, reviews)
Ensure code quality, performance, and maintainability
Create and maintain technical and functional documentation
Required Qualifications
5+ years of PowerBuilder development experience (PowerBuilder 12.5 or higher)
Prior hands-on experience with tax systems is required
Strong experience with relational databases:
Oracle 19c or higher
MySQL or similar
Experience supporting enterprise-scale transactional systems
Ability to write clean, maintainable, well-documented code
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
Experience using project tracking tools (e.g., Azure DevOps or similar)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with state tax or revenue systems (highly preferred)
Knowledge of tax processing, billing, collections, penalties, or revenue accounting
Experience working on legacy system modernization projects
Background in large, multi-team or government environments
Pay: $70.00 - $85.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
