Role description
This is Vignesh from Cozen Tech, and I’m pleased to present an urgent opportunity for Robotics Project Planner/Coordinator in San Francisco, CA
Why Apply Now? Due to an immediate hiring need, qualified candidates who apply early will be fast tracked through the hiring process. If your background aligns with the role, we strongly encourage you to submit your resume promptly.
Job Title: Senior Robotics / Autonomy Engineer – AI Sensor & Edge Systems
Location: San Francisco, CA (Onsite – No Remote Option)
Duration: Longterm Contracct
Openings: 3
Interview: In-Person Technical Interview (San Francisco)
Role Overview:
1. We are seeking a Senior Robotics / Autonomy Engineer to design, build, deploy, and iterate on real-world AI sensor and edge-compute systems mounted on heavy machinery operating in harsh, real-world environments.
1. This is a hands-on implementation role, not a research-focused position. The ideal candidate is a high-velocity engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments with tight timelines, imperfect data, hardware constraints, and real-world deployment challenges.
1. This initiative supports a broader autonomy vision focused on large-scale machine data collection for reinforcement learning, imitation learning, and foundation model development—similar in execution mindset to Tesla’s autonomy and data-engine approach.
Project Scope & Responsibilities:
1. Design and deploy modular sensor stacks across multiple machine platforms, including:
1. LiDAR
1. Cameras
1. CAN Bus
1. Edge compute systems
1. Build and optimize low-latency AI pipelines under constrained bandwidth and compute conditions
1. Integrate edge AI systems with heavy machinery and autonomous platforms
1. Enable efficient data capture, filtering, logging, and offloading via 5G and Wi-Fi
1. Identify and prioritize critical data signals required for AI model training
1. Continuously refine data pipelines to support:
1. Reinforcement learning
1. Imitation learning
1. Large-scale autonomy datasets
1. Rapidly iterate on AI workflows and system designs to meet aggressive delivery timelines
1. Work onsite to mount, test, debug, and harden systems in real-world field conditions
1. Deliver high volumes of functional output with a strong bias toward execution
Required Technical Skills & Experience:
1. Core Technical Requirements:
1. Strong hands-on experience building AI systems for Robotics or Autonomy
1. Proficiency in C++ and/or Python for production systems
Experience designing and integrating multi-sensor stacks, including:
1. LiDAR
1. Cameras
1. CAN Bus
1. Edge compute hardware
1. Relevant Background Experience
Prior work Experience on:
1. Autonomous vehicles
1. Robotics platforms
1. UAV sensing systems
1. DIY or experimental robots operating in real-world environments
Comfortable working with:
1. Imperfect or noisy data
1. Hardware limitations
1. Field deployments and system bring-up
1. Experience deploying AI systems on real machines, not simulations only
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills:
1. Experience with transformer-based models and AI agents
1. Familiarity running multiple AI agents concurrently
Exposure to:
1. Reinforcement learning
1. Imitation learning
1. World models
1. Background in edge AI optimization and bandwidth-constrained systems
1. Previous experience at companies such as:
1. Tesla
1. Uber ATG / Aurora
1. Cruise
1. Waymo (deployment teams)
1. Zoox, Nuro
1. Robotics startups
1. Defense, industrial, agriculture, mining, or construction autonomy companies
1. Hardware, Tools & Stack Indicators (Strong Resume Signals)
NVIDIA Jetson Orin / Xavier:
1. ROS / ROS2
1. CAN Bus integration
1. LiDAR and camera-based perception systems
1. Multi-sensor fusion
1. Edge inference on real hardware
1. Fleet-scale data pipelines and telemetry systems
Soft Skills & Execution Mindset:
1. Self-starter with a strong ownership mentality
1. Highly autonomous and execution-focused
1. Thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
1. Comfortable making trade-offs to deliver results
1. Strong problem-solving instincts with a “make it work” attitude
1. Energized by shipping in weeks, not publishing in months
Why This Role:
1. Direct impact on real machines operating in the field
1. Opportunity to shape large-scale autonomy data pipelines for foundation models
1. Work closely with senior architects solving complex autonomy challenges
1. High ownership, high trust, and rapid execution environment
1. Strong emphasis on building, deploying, and iterating not research
Ideal Candidate Summary:
1. A senior, hands-on autonomy engineer who has built and deployed AI perception or sensor systems on real machines, understands edge constraints, and thrives in fast-moving, execution-driven environments..
