Senior Taxonomist – Media & Entertainment
Day 1 Onsite Culver City, CA
Hybrid Schedule: 3 Onsite Days (Tue, Wed, Thur) & 2 Remote Days (Mon, Fri)
Long-Term Contract with Direct Client Opportunity
No Middle Layer or Implementation Partners Involved
Job Summary:
• We are seeking a strategic and experienced Senior Taxonomist to lead taxonomy design, metadata governance, and cross-functional data initiatives across our Media & Entertainment ecosystem.
• This role will drive the development of scalable metadata frameworks, bridge business and IT, and help shape how content and product-level data tell powerful stories.
• You’ll play a critical role in ensuring that metadata is clean, connected, and actionable — enabling everything from content discoverability and rights management to financial analysis and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the development of enterprise taxonomies and controlled vocabularies for titles, episodes, franchises, contributors, platforms, and financial attributes.
• Define metadata standards and governance policies for consistent classification and data quality across systems.
• Architect metadata models that support business use cases, including content strategy, revenue tracking, rights management, and discovery.
• Guide metadata cleanup and normalization projects to ensure data integrity across IT and business platforms.
• Collaborate with data engineering, business intelligence, and content teams to implement scalable metadata solutions.
• Deliver strategic reports and dashboards that provide insights into content performance, relationships, and value.
• Mentor junior taxonomists and oversee cross-functional taxonomy initiatives.
• Advocate for metadata best practices and the role of taxonomy in data-driven decision-making.
Skills & Qualifications:
• 6+ years of experience in metadata management, taxonomy development, or information architecture.
• Deep expertise in media metadata structures — titles, episodes, formats, genres, contributors, licensing, etc.
• Strong knowledge of metadata governance, data quality standards, and data lifecycle management.
• Experience architecting taxonomies and metadata models across enterprise-scale systems.
• Familiarity with financial metadata and product-linked data (e.g., content cost, monetization, ROI analysis).
• Proficient with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
• Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership skills.
• Strong communication and data storytelling capabilities.
Preferred:
• Experience with semantic technologies (e.g., knowledge graphs, RDF, OWL, SPARQL).
• Knowledge of industry metadata standards (e.g., EIDR, schema.org, IPTC, Dublin Core).
• Familiarity with digital supply chain, rights & licensing data, or content monetization systems.
Pay Range: $70/hr - $75/hr
The specific compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. Our full-time consultants have access to benefits including medical, dental, and vision as well as 401K contributions.
