Senior PowerBuilder Developer
(Contract, Remote - US)
We are seeking a highly experienced and self-motivated Senior PowerBuilder Developer for a contract position. This is a fully remote role, and candidates must be based within the United States.
Responsibilities:
As a Senior PowerBuilder Developer, you will be responsible for:
β’ Designing, developing, testing, and deploying high-quality software solutions using PowerBuilder.
β’ Maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing existing complex PowerBuilder applications, including bug fixes, performance tuning, and feature enhancements.
β’ Collaborating closely with business analysts, product owners, and other technical teams to gather requirements and translate them into robust technical designs and solutions.
β’ Developing and optimizing database objects (stored procedures, functions, views, tables) in relational database systems such as Sybase ASE/ASA, Microsoft SQL Server, or Oracle.
β’ Participating in code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards, best practices, and architectural guidelines.
β’ Providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers, as needed.
β’ Creating and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, API documentation, and deployment guides.
β’ Staying current with PowerBuilder versions, industry trends, and emerging technologies to recommend and implement improvements.
β’ Working independently and proactively to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet project deadlines in a remote work environment.
Required Skills and Experience:
β’ Minimum of 8+ years of hands-on professional experience in PowerBuilder development (preferably with recent versions like PowerBuilder 2017, 2019, or 2022).
β’ Exceptional proficiency in PowerScript, DataWindows, and the PowerBuilder Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
β’ Strong understanding and practical application of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles.
β’ Extensive experience with relational databases, including advanced SQL query writing, performance tuning, and schema design (Sybase ASE/ASA, MS SQL Server, Oracle).
β’ Proficiency with version control systems (Git, SVN, TFS).
β’ Demonstrated ability to analyze complex business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
β’ Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
β’ Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
β’ Proven ability to work effectively and independently in a remote team setting, demonstrating self-discipline and strong time management.
β’ Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
β’ Experience with PowerBuilder application modernization or migration projects.
β’ Familiarity with integrating PowerBuilder applications with other systems using Web Services (SOAP/REST APIs) or other middleware technologies.
β’ Knowledge of agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
β’ Experience with automated testing frameworks or unit testing in PowerBuilder.
β’ Understanding of CI/CD pipelines for PowerBuilder applications.
β’ Prior experience in financial services, healthcare, manufacturing is a plus.
